Battery dies quick on a electric motorcycle compared to the range you get with a gas motorcycle. Also, the more you use the battery the less charge it will hold over time and to replace a battery on an electric motorcycle is not cheap. If you get stuck out in the woods with a dead battery you are shit out luck as where a gas motorcycle you can siphon gas from another bike or have someone go and get gas and you are on your way.
@saddle8bag

You could do your own on a Duc too. You could use cheap oil in the Duc too. You still need to change oil filter, air filter, brake fluid, coolant, bearing grease, and fork oil just like a Duc. If you take it to a Kaw dealer, it will cost you the same per hour to do that stuff. Electric bikes are fine for commuting, but if you're into day long rides and touring, they ain't gonna cut it. They will still need the fork service and belt/chain adjustments. Electric motor will likely require bearing service too as it's not running in an oil bath. Notice how your phone batteries require more and more charging as they age? Gonna happen on the bikes too.
@nzeducateandy
6 жыл бұрын
Yes - once upon a time. I think you will find that every year those issues are better addressed. Check out the latest ranges and life expectancy of the batteries and you may be surprised. You are still probably better off waiting another year for more tech and for prices to drop but this year I believe they have finally become viable.
@saddle8bag

Andrew: That's nice to know. I'll look into it further. I don't have a smartphone, but I know my wife's batteries last a couple years before they need to be replaced due to frequent recharging. I've seen they are now making phones without replaceable batteries, so when they go dead, there goes your $800 phone. For now, I'll just buy her batteries every couple years. But that brings up another point. Who are these weenies buying $800 throw away phones (to say nothing of the hundred dollar plus monthly data plans) and complaining about spending a few hundred bucks to ride five thousand miles? If one values riding so little, why bother?

insurance costs are higher on bikes with fairings because it costs more to fix. Buy a panigale and insurance will be more than the cbr one thousand double r. The same applies for servicing really, labor is the big cost when they spend an extra hour pulling fairings and bits off.

wrong. Your first bill did not include a valve adjustment. the 1st valve adjustment can cost you more than $4000.. because of the cost of valve adjustments. What usually happens or actually what doesn’t happen is valve adjustments. I have a friend that has earned several Ducati‘s over the years. He has never had a valve adjustment on any of them. He just sells them before they need that adjustment.. They also didn’t do the timing belt replacement in your first service, which sounds like it was not much more than changing your fluids and checking your air pressure in your tires.. that is not a full service. A full service is checking the valves, replacing the belt, and then synchronizing the throttlebody‘s after the valves have been adjusted.. One question.. do Ducati’s i still come with Fly Wings embedded in the paint??

You will not get 5-7K miles out of the rear tyre! With a tyre costing $180 why would it cost up to $400 to get it supplied and fitted. Really $220 to take the wheel off and fit the tyre I don't think so. You have the stand and all you need is a 55mm socket to undo the centre nut to get the wheel off! You do not need to take the bike to a Ducati dealer to do this simple task. Also Michelin make the rear tyre as well. You really do need to get your facts right before you post to all

I said the same thing until I owned a DUCATI DIAVEL CARBON BLACK, it is a bitch to get the body work off and not break it or lose the screws and grommet things, putting that back on is even more fun and its a time consuming thing ,they never seem to be put back as well as factory ever again. The timing belts are not tension ed by a belt tension-er like a Chevrolet motor, they are tightened to a specific MHZ like you tune a guitar electronically !! to a specific MHZ !! You need a darned oscilloscope device to tighten the cam drive belts, The DESMO tune requires an assortment of shims to get exact and the kit is not cheap and doing it wrong is a definite possibility! Ducati's computer that runs for over an hour analyzing the bike and flashing updates etc, nothing on these bikes is easy to do.

Stop whining!! You buy Ducatis, which are expensive (overpriced) bikes, and expect to pay for the service like for some 250cc. If you have the monies for an expensive toy like Ducati, you should have money for all that comes with, and it was and it will always be overpriced, compared to others. Here in Europe loaded guys buy Ducatis and they pay the price and do not cry around, since it is a status symbol to own a Ducati. For those who stretched their budget to buy Ducati, you will sell it soon, as most do, since you just went over your limits. You should buy instead a good reliable and cheap Honda CB500 and stop acting like little children.

I had a 1991 BMW 850i V12 Coupe, it was $91,000 in 1991 or about $181,000 in 2019 dollars. The V12 engine in the 850i was used for Rolls Royce and Bentley and is very expensive to maintain and repair, $3,500 a year is average and if you do not the cars deteriorate. Funny enough BMW also used the V12 motor in the BMW 750 sedan which millions were made thus used V12 engines are plentiful and far cheaper than any major engine repair so much so that the E31 forum members called the V12 a "throw away" motor, meaning it is cheaper to replace than repair and you probably get a much lower mileage engine too, the Diavel is the same situation, a sued motor with 3, 000 miles on it is only $2,000 and there are more engines than bikes for sale!

What are you doing to get that price for full coverage on a bike? I ave a 2013 r6 and it costs me about 1100 per year. I've never had a ticket or accident or anything in my life.... send help.

If that belt breaks, just get a serpentine belt from Autozone for $18. Bring the broke belt with you so they can match it up. I'm guessing a 1994 Silverado truck belt is the same length, and they last forever!

very funny, the auxiliary gear on a 94 chevy probably does use about 150 hp. sounds about right for GM garbage.

Not. You can get an emergency belt. Install it on the side of the road because it is able to be spliced together. Some kits to splice the broken belt also for emergency repair.

I can't imagine owing a bike that I could not do all my own service and maintenance on. That includes tire changes, belts, chains, valves, anything mechanical. I am not into vehicle electronics, but I don't own any bikes with electronics. It is against the law for a manufacturer to require you to have them do service to keep the warranty good. The Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act was created to prevent manufacturers and dealers form pulling scams like that. Unfortunately, on new computer controlled vehicles, replacing a stock part with an aftermarket part, which to me is part of the enjoyment of owning a motor vehicle, they can void the warranty. I have 6 bikes, all of them are out of warranty, and all of them have modifications that would void the warranty on a new bike. Installing an aftermarket air cleaner, and or exhaust, and using an electronic tuner to tune the computer to work with the new parts is enough to void the warranty. Just one more reason I will not be buying any more new bikes. There are a lot of nice non computer carbureted bikes out there on the used market. And usually for great prices as well.

Maybe a slight exaggeration on the 5 minutes. You need to pull hood latch and walk up there and open hood. 20 seconds. Put wrench on tensioner and compress it. 15 seconds. Take belt from small pulley or easiest place. 10 seconds. Remove belt. 5 seconds. Open new belt and place around all pullies except the one. 30 seconds. Put wrench on and compress tensioner while slipping belt over pulley. Release tensioner. 20 seconds. That's less than two minutes. But, if you have to go in the house to get the wrench, drink a beer, screw your old lady add another 3 minutes.

Hey cyclecruza, I love your vids and I learn a lot from them, but is it possible if you could do a review on a Harley Davidson 750 night rod. I recently brought it, and I still would like to know if there's some upgrades or futures that I don't know about it and I could do to it. I would truly appreciate it. Thanks. And awesome vids. Love your honesty.

Oil changes are like every 8k miles on this bike. I have two other bikes and ride them equally. Unfortunately, some of us have to work and can't ride all day long every day. Also, I live in Ohio where winter keeps you from riding most days. In the winter, I'm lucky to get out twice a month.
