Hi. Did one yesterday but the pump didn't draw much up to go through the mix. The sparge water went through and everything else was fine. Any thoughts?

Make sure the grain stopper is in the overflow pipe when adding your grain, otherwise it can block the pump at the bottom. Also unscrew the fixed pump pipe and make sure that's clear. There is a small ball bearing valve device which can cause blockages - just remove it. The pump is very weak so any blockages will slow it right down.

I'm 8 brews in with my G30 and have purchased a variety of add-ons - false bottom, grain filter and rolled plates as the silicone seals for the original perforated plates are a total faff. My mash efficiencies are okay, but each time I mash, my top plate sinks into the mash to the extent that almost all the liquid is going though the overflow, even when I turn the recirculation flow right down to a trickle. Is this normal? I'm generally using about 17L mash volume for a 5Kg grain bill which seems to be the recommended ratio.

I had same problem with plate dropping into the liquid and falling on its side. Basically use less water. A better ratio to use is 2.5 water per 1kg grain, so 5kg would be 12.5 litres. This way the plate sits on the mash rather than floating about in liquid. Good luck w the next brew.

@@tombaer9242 I've started suspending my top rolled plate from the handle of the grain basket with a couple of cable ties. It now sits at a fixed level and I can adjust the recirculation to get a more sensible-looking overflow. My mash efficiencies weren't terrible before, but now I'm exceeding target on a regular basis. I don't think this is critical - it's probably just cosmetic.

I've just re watched that again and I realized that I'm not mashing completely right :) I always leave the grain stopper on the overflow pipe... My mash efficiency has always been fine and the wort has never overflown. So I'm wondering what is the purpose of the overflow pipe? (apart from overflowing :) )

Overfllow pipe purpose is that the bottom kettle always have enough water/wort for not to over heat and shutdown.

Doesn't the stainless paddle scratch the interior of the unit?

Does the app work with all grainfathers or only new ones?

With the new connect controller. The old unit where you had the separate temperature controller and the element switches won't work with the app. You can upgrade the controller for about $160.

Hey Brian, are you using the Connect Control Box? If so, just leave it set to Normal :)

Do you know whats crazy? theres not a single complete definitive guide on how to make a grainfather recipe, upload it to your account, and then use it to make a brew. Theres snippets but honestly, if i had my choice again idve bought a robobrew. The principle is there but its the support for the very very basics is totally non existent.

still none now either, I can only find bits and pieces of vital information scattered across lots of 1 step tutorials and full brew videos. I mean, kind of got the hang of it now but it's really frustrating having to use so much time on something that should have been a ~1 hour full tutorial
