For the first Folktails build, if you flip the stairs going to the roof 180 degrees, you can get four shrubs in the middle of the platform that will hit all of the buildings. with very little pathing cost.

Don't flip the stairs, flip the lodges. You get the same number of lodges and you can fit bushes to affect all buildings.

It just occurred to me watching this that late game you could dynamite a pit to stack your apartment building down as well as up so you can fit more floors of housing while maintaining a shorter path. Probably not that worth it in most playthroughs but if you're trying to really pack in hundreds of beavers it could be helpful.

the only thing I'd add is small storage at the bottom: it fits the same footprint as the triple barracks, and when you get to the point of having 300+ beavers, it helps to have the additional food storage at their housing.

I might have to borrow this. The design I've been using has a slightly smaller footprint as the buildings are only two apart (for the Folktails, haven't played with the Iron Teeth yet), and utilizes a more compact spiral staircase design up one side of the structure (if I'd planned ahead, I could have done that on both sides). However, said staircase juts out from the complex by 1, so these designs are a bit more aesthetically pleasing. As for height, last I checked out of curiosity, I could stack 11 triple lodges on top of one another before it stopped me, but I haven't experimented to see if that was a structural limitation or if I might be able to get more if I started at a lower elevation by dynamiting. An interesting note on the "rooftop terrace" however is that they do not, in fact, need to be built on a rooftop, just another structure, so you could actually build them virtually anywhere if you can afford the cost of building platform supports for them. I currently have a lakeside boardwalk made of platforms that's filled with "rooftop" terraces next to my lake view apartment building in my agriculture district, and it looks pretty nice, especially since the fire pit can only be built wholly on solid ground.

Solution to Folktail shrub catch 22. Add two shrubs on 2nd floor. There are two squares of redundant pathing.

You could easily use Triple Platforms instead of a Double and a Single. Will save an extra 4 planks if your economy isnt fully stable yet.

If you do a 3 high by 5 wide Double lodge, you get more beavers for less wood, and it's only 1 block of a wider footprint. It's not a HUGE difference, but if you're trying to conserve resources for other projects, every little bit helps, ey?

something to note ... after the red line ends the beavers have 22 steps left to work in ... BUT a stair on a platform counts as 2 steps ... so if you have a long platformed path up or down at the red end of the line you actually only have 11 tiles worth of pathing to use ... . this leads me to surmise that a DC has a path limit of some size and each platform with a stair will shrink that a bit extra ... so at some point super highrise housing will become ineffective ... . also statues in the other empty spots on top also add more bonuses as well and in a larger size ... and dont forget beehives are the best bonus ever ... they turn 48 tiles of carrots (7x7 less beehive) into a day and a half factory farm that needs 2 farms loaded one planting one harvesting just to keep up ... yup beehives half the grow time ... so more food smaller area taken up ...

you could also build your row of 3 regular lodges and behind them put your double lodges so each line now holds 12 beavers per portion a wider gap in the middle to allow putting a double line of back to back regualr lodges allows you to stack them again ... . btw but you still have to keep in mind eventually the beavers wont be able to climb to the top because of the districts step limit ... as each platform with a stair counts as 2 steps instead of 1

To make the Iron Teeth housing even more compact I don't think the scaffolding needs to be 3 wide, 2 wide with one flight of stairs should work, no?
@JDPlays

It does work, there is a catch, it makes the pathing longer. For the extra 1 tile of scaffolding I think its worth it
