My father, Sgt. Irving"Popeye" Rock , was a Marine in the south pacific at that same time of WW2. Like John Basilone, also from upstate NY. And, oddly enough, a very handsome man like Sgt. Basilone. Sgt. Basilone is the epitome of courage and love for his country and men. I hoped the end of this account would have said he lived. It was emotional to realize the profound sacrifice of this great, great man. Bless him and his dear widow forever. And thank you Forgotten History.

I thought you would of mentioned John Basalone Day in Raritan New Jersey. It’s held every year in honor of it’s hometown hero. During the 1960’s and 70’s the parade was forgotten until a grade school little girl wrote a report about John Basalone and asked why Raritan didn’t have his parade anymore. The city council re-instated it to this day.

Well, I, my family (original) came from the depths of South America and I grew up, I heard many stories about particular 'people '. The certain ones supposedly had come to dinner, just to meet the supposed ,Men. Now that I have gone down to the German Colonies several years ago. I have nothing but empathy for my mom, all women, children, men, animals basically anything that had a heart beat. What I truly saw, no one would believe.
