I remember watching a young Hal when he lived off Bear Creek road in New Braunfels and played at Gruene Hall. I worked security a lot and was able to see some of the best Texas talent in the 80's play there. Hal was different, between his own great written material and his ability to readapt other's songs with his own flair was amazing to see. There were many, the Fabulous Thunderbirds, a young and unknown George Strait, Ray Benson"s Asleep at the Wheel, Joe Ely, Lyle Lovett, Jerry Jeff Walker, Gary P. Nunn, this list could go on and on. Watching Hal Ketchum was a stand-out event for me. I have heard he has stopped touring and no longer performs, what a loss for all of us. He is and will always be a great, great talent.

Written by Allen Reynolds. A top ten pop hit for The Vogues in 1966. Reynolds later went on to produce country acts like Don Williams, Crystal Gayle, Garth Brooks, and Kathy Mattea.

Nanette and I saw Hal and his wonderful band in concert at Portland's Waterfront Park on a moonlit summer night back in the mid-90's. I remember my binoculars being passed around to every female fan in the audience. A memorable evening by one of the best voices to come down the country pike.

He is so underrated! We saw him a few years ago at the Ironhorse in MA. We are going to see him again in Aug. He has a new album coming out in Sept. My husband never liked country, but he loves Hal Ketchum. The man is brilliant!

What an amazing voice...there aren't many singers who sing just as good (or even better in Hal's case) live as on record...i saw Hal for the 1st time in Leeds on the 23/04/08 and i have to admit i'm hooked..country music was never my thing but Hal did it for me, the earth certainly moved, several times!!...he gets better looking with age...can't wait to see him again...Hopefully next time i will pluck up the courage to ask for his autograph and have my pic taken with him...

wonderful unusual voice full of emotion and character as is the music he writes - from the heart. would love to see him live and hopefully meet him. yes, so sad about his MS - his left side was rendered useless and he had to re-learn everything from tying his shoes, playing the guitar and singing - he is an obvious fighter. does anyone know if he is from American Indian heritage?
