@@AidanMillward Hes doing the best he can with his condition ,but as you say he simply has zero chance of competing at the level, of the rest of the grid. The result was due to a shrewd tyre change to wets. This was immediately apparent when he dropped like a stone from his grid position in race 3. The guy is a total inspiration to other disabled people ,with what he is achieving though, just to be in the BTCC,and all off his own back, with no support from his brother, which i am sure would have been available.I expect being a Hamilton,as well as the publicity being not able bodied, while racing at the highest national level, has helped him to secure sponsorship The series needs drivers, with big sponsorship deals to fill up the field.. Look at how team dynamics couldnt run because of losing their major sponsor, while Dan Rowbottom could continue to race with the sponsorship package he could bring with him, to Nappa racing.

Great video :) Nic is a great down to earth guy; back in about 2011 I was helping with some instructing at a “young disabled drivers event” at Donington (I’m a wheelchair user too) when Nic turned and spent some time with us. He was a massive encouragement to the disabled kids there. There was no media, no cameras, just a group of disabled people enjoying motorsport. This is the side of him that most would never see :)

It was fantastic to see Nic up there, he is a real inspiration to anyone who is less able and wants to race. I bet he was chuffed with the p6 and that his brother was there incognito to cheer him on. Nick is a lovely lad. I've been rooting for him ever since he started. I remember him in his first season talking about how much he wanted to do it on his own, but Lewis was essentially offering him anything he wanted to be able to take part (typical big brother :)). Lewis turned up every weekend that Nick was racing and he wasn't. Nick also had to be able to get out of the car, unaided, in (I think) 12 seconds. Sounds easy, but with a degenerative condition which doesn't restrict me quite as much as CP could, I know how quickly 12 seconds can go by! The sheer fact that he can do it is a win. It was probably easier to get sponsorship. So glad he got the result he's bloody well earned!

Honestly, was so buzzing for Nic this weekend - met him at least years season opener, and he's an absolute gentleman. I had way more of an issue with drivers like Andy Neate who weren't playing bills, and crashing into people than I do with Nic - the fact he can even race at all is amazing, and I know how much he puts into it just to be on the grid. Also I think Dynamics being absent is a good thing in a way, it’s meant there’s a couple of old names missing, meaning the new drivers can shine through more. Have to agree that the Hill penalty made no sense. Firstly it was Suttons fault or a racing incident, depending on how you look at it. It certainly was not Hill at fault. Secondly, I do not remember any point during the race that he was under investigation. Then when the penalty was applied, it was so weird that they allowed the position to hold and then gave him the three placed drop next race. In he past they have always applied a time penalty in the race the incident happened. This just sounds like trying to appease Napa and Sutton.

I hope the stewards give their reasoning behind the Hill penalty. In my eyes he was going around the slower starting Rowbottom in front, using the space available. An act many driver has done in many categories of racing. Sutton pulling across was also something many have done at a start. Racing incident in my eyes. I fear this could set the precedent of drivers closing gaps aggressively on the grid knowing everyone behind will have to back out or face a similar penalty.

Part of the reason I like the BTCC. Shit can happen, I was there and noticed the first 9 or 10 on slicks. A few laps later and on the big screens it showed. The grid had reversed. But 15 mins waiting on the grid is a long time, its much less of a pit decision to change tyres, and more of a chancers game. The Carreras got it worse though. Great day anyway. Also, can anyone tell me how Alan Gow ended up in the U.K. running the BTCC? I didn't realise who he was when he first appeared in my own writing, so I rather under-introduced him. He first appears to take over management of Peter Brock's team in the aftermath of the Polarizer thing (he had money from property so he could afford to work for free, which was all Peter could afford to pay him). Brock's team ended up in a cosy relationship with Andy Rouse (after Rouse screwed over Dick Johnson and Allan Moffat, that is), so presumably Rouse had a hand in it, but it was still a very short window from running Team Brock to being on the other side of the world running a whole series.
