One of the things I love most about the food options of Chiang Mai is how one can experience a full spectrum of Thai food in just a few hours!
You could also just simply call this a 'Veg Non-Veg Day,' but that title doesn't make it sound nearly as fun as this day truly was!
FIRST!
Aubrey, you are awesome, and YOU were the 'winner' of the Part 1 video question :)
I always want to make these as educational as much as anything, and I wanted to show how we have our temp taken while entering any restaurant/shop here in all major towns in Thailand. My question to this girl was "what is the normal temperature that YOU see?' meaning, what is the number which will usually show up on her forehead reading thermometer :). And this is the question that Aubrey answered correctly :). I have emailed her, and I will send her a gift, and hopefully she will send a photo when she receives it... and Ill post it in a later video :)
NOW, back the the VIDEO:
Beginning with a lunch of gorgeous, tasty, and quite artistically presented meal at Meena Rice-Based Cuisine (that was Part 1), followed by a dinner of "Sledge-hammer Meat with Pa Daeng."
Basically this is the meal that the work force of Northern Thailand is looking forward to the moment they finish working on a Friday afternoon. Although we did not partake, this is pretty much exactly a meal of 'Drinking Food in Thailand,' showcased perfectly by the fact that Chef Andy Ricker has a wonderful book out by this exact title! The book features this very restaurant nonetheless, and that is also how we found it ourselves :)
The relaxation and extremely calming local vibes at 'Pa Daeng Jin Thoop' are only interrupted by Uncle Woot's jerky sledge-hammer sessions, providing the next rounds of pounded beef and herbal steamed pork to any and all customers waiting nearby.
The menu here is one that may fill ALL your Northern Thai Meat dreams in a single dinner and yet, somehow, the gentle (and hilarious) characters of both Uncle Woot and Auntie Daeng are kind and lovely enough that I would say you don't even need to be a carnivore at all to enjoy yourself here to the fullest.
