Great video Synthpro….thanks for taking the time to show us…. Do you know where I could buy a replacement transformer for my 1930’s Hammond clock? Take Care!

Thanks for posting this video! I just used wd40 in my Hammond motor and the same color fluid came out with a bad smell.

Hey S-pro! It's your favorite uncle on your mom's side. You're repairing clocks now, too? Nice.

Hey Uncle! You know, I didn't really plan on working on clocks but thought it would be neat to cover the Hammond clock since it goes into musical instrument history. Love old clocks but have not spent much time with them honestly.

I have the very same exact clock. it isn't running. I'll see if I can fix it one one of these days. thanks for the instructions.

Funny, I just did the same to one of these yesterday. I used two screwdrivers on the plug, wirecutters probably would have been easier lol. Thanks for the tip on the WD40, I was wondering how to flush out the old grease.

About how much oil did you re-pack the motor with? I suspect if I overfill, I will get leaks.

I wish I could see what the inside of that bad rotor looks like. I have one that is also bad, but I have yet to open it up. Wondering if it is repairable.

I have a Synchron 35221R-5 (640 110V 60CY 5W 60RPM) is going clockwise can you rebuild it to go counter clockwise or recommend someone that can build one for me. thanks

Remember when things were actually built to last and not just disposable? I have a couple of those clocks running fine!

While investigating a non-functioning Hammond electric clock works on an 85+ year-old grandfather clock, I ask for your input on the synchronous motor. It spins freely, which I THINK means the motor is not bound-up with old oil and should be able to work, assuming ample voltage is applied on the induction plates?? Any help is greatly appreciated on this motor issue.

Hi Nicholas, There are a few things that can cause the motor to not run but if it feels free, you may have a transformer issue. Something I discovered was I woul get around 3 to 6 volts AC between the two plates the motor sets on. I am unsure of the ohm rating you should have on the primary windings but suspect it would be around 500 ohms. Hope this helps.

@@synthpro I found a You Tube video to repair the transformer.... kzitem.info/news/bejne/pI2j0WZnjHR0aaQ As you'll see, the author had an open transformer when tested with his multimeter. With that in mind, I found the same on my transformer. So, next I'll follow the video and fix my unit. I'll post the result. Regards, Nick

Hi, I want to know if you are repair these clock's now,? a few days a go I bought a clock on the same brand but isn't run and the wood case have a lot of cracks. I would be interested in someone repair it. If you have a business page I would be very appreciated to check the information and share the clock pictures.

How do you remove the time adjustment dial without damaging it?

Never use WD40 on any clock ! It will gum up very quickly and it's harder to clean out. In the mid 30s RCA used a synchronous 78 RPM turntable in their cheap phonographs. If you started them backwards they would play the record backward ( from the label area, out)

awesome, kind of an Accutron watch vibe going on there. The Accutrons actually used a tuning fork to generate the watch clock. One of the several things they did to make electronic clocks before the advent of the quartz crystal clock.

The technology of these early electric clocks are very neat. What makes this clock interesting is that its actually synchronized to the 60Hz. I'm guessing export models had different transformer windings for voltage and teeth on the stator for 50Hz synchronizing.

@@synthpro its definitely a rabbit hole, just like synths. For better or worse I have a fair number of synths and accutrons.
