The trigger in the back of the unit is for the rotation of the feeding cable ( Clockwise to clean the clogged pipe or counter clockwise to undo a possible twisting of the cable ) while the front handle is to feed the cable forward or retract the cable in reverse.

The button on the back actually has a "R" and an "L" on it for right and left, referring to the direction the drum will spin. Not "R" and "F".

I always sneak the drain reverse 🔄 never Forward and feeding by 🤚 , told by a master plumber in NYC because the pointy head in the snake it might bite and crack the pipes specially in the elbows

Good review and only vid on this that covers the weird ass F/R back near the trigger that seem to not be needed much if ever. Also the lock ring explanation.

Thanks Monkey Wrangler. Since making the review, several posters have clarified the F/R button near the trigger and it makes sense. The F/R function on this unit actually references two functions: 1. The F/R on the feed handle makes sense to everyone, F feeds the cable into the pipe and R retracts the cable. 2. F/R button near the trigger really should be renamed Clockwise/Counter-clockwise. The cable normally rotates in a clockwise manner, regardless of Feeding or Retracting the cable. There could be a time where the cable could snag, for example, clothing. In that case, the F/R button we're now referring to is when you'd want to briefly put it in the R (or COUNTERCLOCKWISE) position. I wish I understood this when I made the video, but thanks to the others here who pointed this important feature out. Hopefully you'll never need it, but, it could be a lifesaver in certain situations.

Why is forward and reverse so hard for people to comprehend?🤣😵🥴???

The button on the back actually doesn't say f/r it says r/l meaning left and right referring to the direction the drum will spin.

As pointed out, it is "L" and "R" not F and R...

Hello, thank you for the video. I am thinking of grabbing one of those next time when I go to HF. Will it fit a solid core 1/4 cable like this one from Amazon? ( GENERAL WIRE SPRING GIDDS-214102 Pipe Cleaners Drain Cleaning Cable 1/4" x 25', With El Basic Plug Head - 214102).

I don't know the answer. The Bauer unit has a connection union (a small screw) that connects the auger cable to a short pigtail within the drum. I've never taken the unit apart to know if an alternative auger can be used. Hopefully someone with more knowledge will weigh in.

Thanks for the info, I was assuming that reverse was just for taking tension off the line in the event the forward got jammed, use reverse to take pressure off, and not to use it otherwise as it would unwind the cable weave and cause damage to the cable not the motor

The F/R button is for use when your line gets snarled up. It will allow you to attempt to unbind your line. That's why it's meant to be used only a few seconds at a time. If used to retieve your line normally, you'll get your line snarled up in the drum and cause damage to your tool.
@caymanwest4929

Thanks for the explanation. Does that mean the cable would just rotate in Reverse without retracting into the drum?
@azmendozafamily

@@caymanwest4929 the retraction and estension is disctated by the position of the lever. If you must run it in reverse, you do it in neutral, just enough to unsnarle the coiled up spring. Think of a slinky spring that you twist and it forms a loop in itself. To get that loop out, you have to twist in an opposite direction.

I found out the hard way that if you run the motor too long in the reverse position it will kink up the cable, and you will need to replace it.

I found out the hard way not to lend it out to others...now it runs full blast as soon as you plug it in and there is no sign of the cable anywhere at all...fun times. 🤨😣😑😒

Just a clarification re the F/R switch where the tape is placed tape over it (located near the trigger). As others have astutely pointed out, this button should be renamed Clockwise/Counterclockwise Cable Rotation. The normal position of this switch is Clockwise ("F" on the switch). In the event the cable snags, briefly change the switch to a Counterclockwise rotation ("R") to remove the bind.

@@soota6083 ...... I have no idea what was in my pipes...i was up till after 11 at night using this gun to unclog it. Little frustrating when it wasn't unclogging after many attempts. But with prayer & relentless dedication, it FINALLY got through. The one thing I wish this gun had tho was the option to change the tip of the heads. I wish I could attach a wider head. Other then that, great gadget. 😁

Totally unsafe description.. the reverse on the drill part is to spin the cable backwards if it gets stuck on your cloths your hand if the snake wraps up on itself it’s to spin backwards and get unstuck
