where did you get those high Jack Stands? Also, I've been beating my head on the different types of scissor lifts out there. What was your main reason for getting this one oppose some of the others? Also, can I hook up to a standard 220 volt instead with a different plug instead of the plug they're calling for? I think that's the NEMA L6-20P

Is the motor dual voltage? Can it be wired for 110v or is it 220v only. The majority of other brands are all 110v motors and I'm wondering why HF went with 220v? I have 220 in my garage but would like it to be portable so I can take it to the backyard or other places.

Your videos on this lift are really great! Thanks so much for taking the time. As I've never used a scissor lift before, can you explain how you use those tall jack stands? Do you put them under the car, or do you put them somewhere under the lift? Maybe at the central pivot point of the lift? Thanks!
@goneredcar1
8 жыл бұрын
+deemstyle I try to get them under the lift not the vehicle. They are mounted off set from each other. I also shorten the stands so they fit under the lift. I look at the safety factor just to give time to get out not save lift or vehicle. I have also heard that you can use house beam jack posts on the 4 lift points to help hold the vehicle for extended time and stability.

ne thing you never tell us is "how do you lock the mounting pad arms in place once you select their position?" you can move them around so easily with your hand, makes one think a 5,000 lbs car would easely slide off at the slightest push and fall on the ground. Are there screws or "something" to lock them in place once they are placed under the vehicle's jack points? All the videos I saw nobody mentions this and its a huge safety concern for us.

When you are working on the car underneath, how do you use the jack stands for safety? Thanks in advance.
@goneredcar1
8 жыл бұрын
+Robert Orellana That's a good question here is a simple way I approach this matter. If I'm going to work near the center of the vehicle then the stands go as far out from the work area as possible. This would include bumper supports or frame cross overs. The main concern is the front of the vehicle where the weight is. If working near the front or rear of the vehicle then I place the stands under the scissor jack's frame. What I use the jack primarily for is to do tire rotations and brake jobs, and oil changes. That's where this jack seems to works best. Some other jobs I found to be most helpful is working under the dash and waxing the side panels and rocker panels without having to bend over. Doing body works would also help by getting the vehicle near eye level.

I've had my new auto lift about two weeks. My 1973 VW Super Beetle has been lowered in the front. DO you think your ramps would work the same as they do for your Corvette?I've measured the distance from the floor to the top of the lifting pads at 8 1/2".I really enjoyed video. Michael Davis :-)
@goneredcar1
8 жыл бұрын
+maddogmyke The lift when used with the ramps is only the height of the rubber pad and the 1" hockey puck plus the size of the swing arm. The corvette is very low and with the ramps no problem that's about all I can tell you. Remember I use the rubber puck for extra frame height because of the floor pans.

Have you encountered any vehicles you couldn't pick up with this lift because the jack points were out of reach of the arms? I was just about to pull the trigger on buying one of these but then I read a couple forum posts where guys said they couldn't lift up some of their cars because the jack points were out of reach of the lift arms...

Never tried any full size pickups. I use the hockey pucks for help in locating pick up points for hard to lift one. I did pick up my Kubota tractor with the loader bucket and quick attach three point hitch frame.

+goneredcar1 What had me worried was I was reading the reviews on Harbor Freight's website and one guy claimed that he couldn't even pick up a 2016 Camry because the jacking points were too far out for the arms to reach. Seemed hard to believe, but it made me nervous!

I am looking into one of these lifts, I am looking at putting it in a bay 9' w x 10' tall. I believe the bay is big enough. But my problem is that the floor has a slant to it ( front to back) do you think that would be an issue?
@goneredcar1
10 жыл бұрын
I believe that it depends on the size of the vehicle you intend to lift. The Corvette I had on the lift is small and lite. I would say on the matter of having an unleveled surface that's contrary to the standards listed in the manual.

Last winter I had my Vette on it for 4 months while storing two ATV's under it. All was fine no leaks or problems. Use it for work on several vehicles and a tractor. As far as warranty they had a new pump back to me in less then two weeks. The replacement is still working and fine. It's simple and just works it holds the vehicle firm even when pulling and banging.?

No this Scissor lift is 220 only and remember this lift is over 800 lbs. And not that portable. The other way you can power it is by most generator are rated at 220 volts. The lift also requires a flat level hard surface for your safety.

Well let me put it this way, yesterday it was cold and windy in the Midwest I was in my garage nice and warm. Came up with a idea to play with my corvette so having it raised up and out of the way for winter I decided to clean inside the wheel wells. Within 20 minutes I had all the wheels off and ready for the cleaning 90 minutes later I was sitting in my folding chair lighting a cigar admiring my work. So my answer to you is yes I still like it and it works for me and that’s the bottom line. Also I have developed a new safety fail safe device and will be making a new video with it next month.
