I had a 2006 Sportster Roadster 883 with a a Stage I upgrade and a conversion to a 1200. It was a good bike. Light (compared to other Harleys, not other brands) and quick enough for me. I eventually traded it in for a V-Rod which had power galore. I guess I'm now getting older...traded in the V-Rod which I had for 10 years for a new Road King (ok, new to me but slightly used). I now go on longer trips with the touring bike. I have a Stage I kit in the Road King but am seriously looking into a Stage II kit for more low-end power and torque. Worth it? I'm a Harley guy so probably yes. Good video, by the way! You are right...a Stage I kit does open the bike up more and you get a noticeable power difference.

I put stock CVO exhaust on my regular Ultra Limited because the looked nicer, then changed the internals with a kit from a place in the US call Fullsac Performance (yes, I know; weird name). The CVO slip ons with the full exhaust cost me $100 on Kijiji, so the total cost of the mod was pretty cheap and sounds like the Screamin' Eagle from Harley. Of course, I put the stage 1 breather on it, and just like you, I got the one that goes behind the stock cover. The clutch I had on the Sportster was a Screamin' Eagle race clutch after I blew up the spring plate, so it was even harder than stock to pull in. A million times better is a pretty big improvement! I have a 2009 Triumph Thruxtomatic, I found changing the suspension and changing the tires made a yuge difference. Not likely to tinker with the engine or pipes.

@@DifferentSpokesTV Did some research and found the Oberons. Very well built, out of the UK, Canadian distributor is out of London, Blue Streak Racing.ca . Tony was awesome to deal with, sent me the levers for my bike specifically... of coarse Harley has different configuration for a CVO and they went on in about 10 minutes. My Harley hydraulic clutch now feels like a cable clutch and I can adjust it perfect for my hand. Only wish I had found them when I owned my V-Rod... that clutch was a monster! Pete

I tried making my Sporty a better bike by throwing money/time at it. Finally, I did a Stage 6. What's that you ask? Trading your Sporty in for a Dyna. The Dyna is a better bike & used, can be had for the price of a new Sporty. If I was doing it today, it'd be a new Indian Chief (new, it's only $2K more than a new Sporty).

Nice video thank you! As you mention you like the looks of the Roadster, do you know you can fit the original black heat shields on your new slip ons? My Harley tech didn’t know, and as I insisted, he tried and it fits perfectly, as most slip ons are the same diameter.
@DifferentSpokesTV
3 жыл бұрын
I put the original heat shield up to my new pipes and they are slightly off. The new pipes are rounder where they meet the header pipe so the heat shields don't quite fit. You may be able to jerry-rig something if you're good at that sort of thing, but it won't fit without work.

For the premium you pay on a HD it should be standard. If you buy a Ducati or BMW and you expect it to come with better finishing components that a Japanese bike so shouldn't the same hold true for other premium brands?

Current emission norms force air cooled engines to run too lean, which make them overheat. Engines are running as designed with a stage one, and therefore more reliable.

Most *knowledgeable* people don’t buy their Harley for power / speed .
@usmcvet0313
3 жыл бұрын
Depends what you're referring to by power/ speed. If they're buying an HD to compete on the track, then yes that would be unwise. My HD has plenty of power/ speed for what it was designed for, the street, which is where it spends 100% of its time. Conversely, if someone buys a sportbike purely to ride on the street (which the vast majority do), that would be unwise when there are many objectively better suited bikes for the street. It's relative to the intended use.

@@Anton_G_604 I definitely agree that we're using more of what we paid for out on the street. I totally get it if a guy says sportbikes just make him happy, and he deals with its shortcomings because he just loves it. Same with guys on adventure bikes that never have any intention of touching the dirt. What I hate is when a guy has the attitude of my bike is faster, so your HD is an overweight pos.

The big question is: If Harley Davidson really wanted to make money and sell bikes, why do they keep selling bikes with subpar parts and performance for 20-30% more MSRP than probably every other brand on the planet, and then expect you to dump the same amount of money as the bike on upgrades?!?!?! Plus they make a killing off of financing . . . sorry, not gonna get my money lol.

If you want more power and performance "don't buy a Harley!" my wife is going to get a stage 1 on her 883 Iron (she bought a Harley as we are getting on a bit and she liked the lightness with low seat)mainly for the better sound of some short shots. I got a CVO Fat Bob this year it pulls like a train already (1800cc) but on Thursday i,m going to Harley in Leeds (UK) for a set of short shots and a tuner to sort out the emissions and exhaust exup type valve for the look and the sound!. I have a Ducati Monster 1200 with pipes and a tune for my "scratching" fun and when I like to get out by my self for lairy fun! You don't buy a Harley for anything but looks attitude comfort and lifestyle choice, My wife and I still want to load the Harleys up with luggage against sissy bars and ride to Spain from the UK... I,m past sport bikes now for this type of ride and my Multistrader needed a step ladder for me to climb up on!! lol all the best Phil

You're comparing apples to oranges, unless your talking models in the same category. So for BMW the new R18, or Yamaha the Star Eluder, ect. When compared to those, they all are very similar. The under-square engines HDs and those others run aren't about big horsepower numbers, they're all about torque. Big torque numbers at low rpms is what you want with a big, heavy bike. As for oem parts like Screaming Eagle, it's no different than what, say KTM for example, does with the Akroprovic accessory exhaust. They all try to do it, HD has just been better at marketing theirs to their customer base.

Sounds way better with the slip ons... for me, nothing sounds better than a V2 rumble. Still, I am not that much of a cruiser guy that I could get happy with a Harley... though the Bronx might have made a difference. I still don't get why they cancelled it - there is such a huge crowd for a powerful naked V2 that you can rush through the twisties... so I will keep enjoying my Firestorm (oh right, it's called the Superhawk in your place). Nice vid anyways. Stay safe, enjoy your bikes and keep the content coming!
