My dad was a Harrisburg City firefighter for 24 years (1954 to 1978). And of all things his Fire House was on Allison Hill, and on this street (14th Street). Just before this Tower Truck stopped at 3:50 on this video, look to the left and that's my dad's Allison Hill Fire House. The Allison Hill FH has been closed for many years.

@KPaul77 Regarding the truck’s outriggers in this video: Why weren’t both outriggers deployed before the crew put the ladder into operation? Similarly, what’s the rationale (if any) for only deploying the RH outrigger instead of both?

Running Red stop lights wouldn'be helping anyone if they FD crashes. Tunnel vision for Engineer and Shotgun happens quite a bit. Sorry , much of that happens. Luckily know recuers had to be rescued or innocent civilian drivers.

Absolutely ridiculous running through those red lights like that, and not even attempting to slow down. The time will come that someone will be in the court room struggling to justify the accident that injured or killed someone and/or cost the city money in apparatus repairs and lawsuits. And spare me the “if it was your house” or “if your kid was trapped” bullsh$t. Because what if it was “your house” that the sufficient apparatus didn’t arrive to, or if “it was your kid” the got struck by the careless operator.

Not sure how it's set up in Hbg? But there are 2 fire stations on Allison Hill must closer, then this engine coming all the way from uptown? At least a quicker response time anyway.

looks like there was a firehouse on the street, not sure if it's in service. this a tiller not an engine and they got the front of the building. nice driving

Pamela, you are correct that there are two engines close by. Both engines were already on scene. Engines typically stage further back to let the ladder trucks come right to the building so that they are able to reach. It's a system that works very well.

Yes, they have two Fire Stations on the Hill, One is two blocks away (small engine truck) and a 5 bay Fire Station #2 about 6 blocks away. To run the Ladder Truck 3 miles from the Uptown Fire Station #1 might have been needed if the other ladder truck from the nearby House was already working at another nearby fire. Lots of kids playing with lighters and cigarettes in the mid day. As Sly and the Family Stone would say..."hot fun in the Summertime." kzitem.info/news/bejne/kqp5yWFjbKqoZGU

Yes it was, it was the old Allison Hill Fire House. My dad worked there for 24 years (1954 to 1978). For many years he drove the Hook & Ladder that was housed there. Near the end of his time with the Fire Department, my dad was the driver for Asst. Fire Chief car (The Assistant Chief was named Shover).
