I love your bird. I had four different ones live out their lives with me. All had been injured and could not fly well enough to release. I also raised several batches of orphans. That were released. I am older now and can't have them with me. I sure miss them

That is so CUTE!! Dart whacks the hell out of my hand when he's "mad." At a certain point, when I'm feeding him his mealworms, he'll want me to stop and put the rest of the allotted worms in the hoop of his birdie basketball toy. He really pecks and flaps while I'm trying to put them in there. I guess it's fun for him. I laugh when he tries to be so rough and tough.

I live in central California and get starlings every spring that nest in the nooks and crannies under the eaves of my house. I know they're not native, but I still love the sounds they make. They mimic everything they hear from frogs, coyotes, train and car horns and sirens. As an experiment, I'm tempted to set up a speaker that repeats a unique sound to see if the same birds (and their offspring) return to the same spot... Pretty sure this has been done by now, but I'm too lazy/preoccupied to look it up.

I definitely heard ticked off Starling in there. I'd put sandpaper on a stem he can brush his beak against to wear it down. My cat used to detest having her claws trimmed (just the needle at the tip as she kept snagging my expensive trousers and the furniture just walking around. Shed be angry a couple minutes then go right back to her usual sweet self.

Good thing he isn't a hookbill or you would have been bleeding, a lot. We raised a female house finch and her tiny beak was similar. She could poke and grab but no damage 😍 I have a Maxi Pionus parrot and a tiny GCC and they both can make you bleed, the Maxi much worse but luckily he refuses to bite so far, but I've had other Maxi parrots that had no problems punching holes in me.

Shame on you for trimming a wild bird's beak (or any bird's beak for that matter) This is wholly unacceptable. I love most of the animal related YT videos up here, but this one is the first I've reacted to negatively. Also too many people who claim to have "rescued" a fledgling should have left them alone. Their mothers will usually be around nearby and are waiting for you to move away 🙁
@sherrie6492

I had 4 different Starlings live out there lives with me All had been injured and not enough flight ability to survive. And I did have to trim beaks occasionally. Because they weren't able to pick up their food. Not being able to have natural wear that they normally get.i also raised orphans. Referred to me by an top notch rehab center. They wouldn't take them because of non native status. And I did know what I was doing. Most birds don't have the beak issues a starling can aquire Prying on the couch isn't the same as prying in the ground.

XIn Colorado, wildlife has to be taken in by wildlife rehabilitation, that provides the best outcome, usually, and they do try to eventually release release in the same vicinity where found
@sherrie6492
Жыл бұрын
@@alicewoodard2373 Here in Southern Oregon rehab facilities will not take Starlings or House Sparrows. They will destroy them . I don't see that as the best outcome.
