Very nice. I’m going to look at one over here in the United States. It’s a HD16 that’s been sitting for years. I’m hoping to get it running and bring her home.

Look at that RG LeTourneau winch !!! A piece of history and monument to man's industrial might. Grouser plates looking good too. Although for scrub clearing you'd want worn tracks so that damage to the ground was minimised. I'm not silly - that dozer is sitting there because it's not worth repairing but if it could be it would just be close to the perfect scrub clearing machine. Nothing beats a cable blade when it comes to reducing impact on soil.

Pros and cons on the grouser plates. A lot of buffel grass gets dropped on the tracks as a method of seeding some of that country so a bit more disturbance is sometimes a good thing.

Cable blades are better for clearing too, if anything gets over the blade and hits the cable, no drama, if it hits hydraulic rams, could be expensive.

Rob, as you were talking motors i noticed a welded id style marking below engine door. As you know how old i am I reckon that is an ex Electricity Commission NSW piece of plant.Maybe ex coal pusher from early power station. Reason I say this is we had a D7G that needed major work done to it and we scored/ borrowed a International TD 15 from Wangi power station and it had the plant No. welded like that on major steel parts that couldnt be removed easily and thie dozer had something very similar. We used it for clearing under the power lines.When we finished with it it went back to Sydney to be auctioned off.Maybe a coincidence ,but reckon I might be right as the Commission started in early 50's which would suit close enough to the dozers age. Glad Alzeimers hasnt got me yet, cause those old thing stir the old memory bank!!!

Your friend has it wrong, originally Allis Chalmers used GM motors the later models had Allis Chalmers engines. The 21and 16 are identical dozers, but the 21 was turbo charged the 16 Naturally aspirated
@mountainblokemoments
2 жыл бұрын
Yeah I thought so too Allis Chalmers dropped the gms and developed their own engines. You sure on them being the same the 21 feels like a bigger dozer, track frame and engine bay just feels/looks bigger

@@mountainblokemoments The 21 probably has a wider nose because it used a bigger radiator, and the tracks might be shorter on earlier models, but the transmission etc are shared

Hi RJ The 16’s that had a clutch direct or fuel torque were constant mesh 6 forward & 3 reverse same as the 15’s. The 20’s and later 21’s with a clutch with fuel torque were 2 speed forward & 1 reverse. The first 21’s bare were roughly 42,000lbs and the 16 bare was roughly 32,000lb out of the factory! Thanks for listening!

The GM,s were before this model. Allice bought out Buda diesel engine manufacturing. Not sure of the exact date. In my opinion a step backwards. GM's turn diesel into noise and smoke, Buda just burnt lots of diesel. I had one of those. the track gear was too light. and only get 50 hours from a cable because of all the twisting running around the side of the machine. The winch drove me crazy as mounted on the back after the converter it would slow down when you needed it the most. Other than that it worked OK.

I'd steer clear of old terrex and alis Chalmers. Parts are just too hard to find and expensive when you do. Find an international td15 or 175c loader. Or an Caterpillar d6c or d6d. Just my opinion.

And your totally entitled to your opinion Tom. I’ve found parts for the 21 to be okay so far had a few issues getting filter numbers from discontinued lines but got that sorted now. Brendan from “Phil Hunt Spares” out of Tamworth reckons he can get me whatever I may need for my 21 as well. Also I know of a couple of 21’s that are parked up, but I’m hoping to never get to the stage of pulling major bits out and replacing🤞. I would back the Allis 21 against a cat D8 of the same vintage any day, especially as the Allis has the torque converter and the cats where still manual clutch drive. But age is always going to be against them whatever breed they may be.

@@mountainblokemoments if you have that kind of parts supply then I wouldn't worry about it either. The old 21 does push well from your videos.
