I purchased one of these in 1979. It came with the kit, and book for building the kit and some sample programs - AND it came with two large spiral notebooks teaching you about the basics of binary, hex, basic I/O, and programming flow control. Great set of books, and I learned a lot. I still have all of it. A friend bought one, but it was missing the two 2112 static rams... I said "I think I have some at the house". Went home at lunch and found them. Went back to the office, installed them, and had the unit displaying a message other than "CPU UP". He was thrilled.

I just picked one of these up from the highschool I go to. They had a bunch in the digital electronics classroom and the teacher said I could take one home. Now I'm on a quest to make it do stuff all I have done so far is make it run the demo programs in the manual, it also has the extra ram. Nice video thanks for sharing.

Out of all the computers I've ever used... I think this was one of the most enjoyable. At college, back in 1986... such nostalgia!

@@retrotechandelectronics I've never seen one in real life... but they look like they've got as much "hex keypad fun" as the Heathkit.

Very cool! Now I am motivated to also make a hands-on programming video about my ET-3400!

Worked with several 8 bit processors since the early 70's. There was an upgraded monitor ROM in the mid 80's which added an LCD subroutine

There were several variants, without the caddy for the computer interface, there wasnt much you could do with the unit.

Interesting!! I just found a number of these in an old classroom. I would like to use them to teach some concepts. Just wondering how stable they are considering their age? (old caps, etc??)

Hello, glad you enjoy the videos. I fear you confuse me for another though. I was a CT and never a deck seaman.

I always call sailors deckapes its what the jarheads used to call us. I know it really refers to BM, The Puget Sound was the Flagship when I was Stationed on it in Rhode Island. So always was full of Marines and big brass Adm. Zumwalt came there all the time. I can't remember how many times I banged my head jumping to Attn. with all the brass around, finally they transferred the flag to the little rock. 73
