I haven't even got my bees yet and not planning on doing anything on this scale but I'm loving the information in your videos! Really learned a lot about the whole process from you. Nothing quite like seeing a professional at work. Thank you!!

Hi, Bob. One of the things that I notice when watching your videos is the cleanliness of your operation. We plug along with our pressure washing but never seem to reach a consistent and satisfactory level of clean. Do you use steam by any chance?
@bobbinnie9872

Hi Michael. We only use hot water and "liquid green" soap but we work hard at keeping it clean.

Bob, I stumbled across your videos while reviewing packaging equipment online as we are soon to start upgrading to more automation. Thanks for all that is shared, it is nice to see what other folks are up to with their operation. If you wouldn't mind sharing, what brand of label machine do you run, and who made those great looking, and large, honey holding tanks for you? Thanks, Brett
@bobbinnie9872
4 жыл бұрын
Hi Brett. We have a twenty year old "Universal" label machine. It's been overhauled once and still works great. My brother-in-law, who has a large stainless steel fabrication shop near LA, made the tanks and all the rest of our stainless steel equipment. I talked to him two weeks ago, because people have been asking, and he said he has over a year's worth of standing orders.

@@bobbinnie9872 Thanks for the response and answering my questions. Wow, glad your brother-in-law's business is booming during this crazy time. Is the tank design proprietary to him, or do you know of any other shops that make that kind of tank? I would really like to upgrade to a 300 gallon one, but a year might be to far out for me to wait..... Best.

Bob, does the 5 hp blue pump suck the honey through the filters out of the drums or is there another pump pushing through the filters?
@bobbinnie9872
2 жыл бұрын
Hi Gregg. The pump pulls from the barrels and then pushes through the filters on the way to the tanks. These progressive cavity pumps do a good job of passing larger debris that my be in the drums.

I bought a bee blanket warmer that wraps around a 5 gallon bucket sold by Mannlake. It warms up to 110 degrees, using that in conjunction with a large dehumidifier in a small room while opening a honey gate a small bit. Will that drop my moisture from 19 to 17?

I'm not sure that's enough surface area to help quickly. It certainly won't hurt to try.

what would be a good price for 3 lb jar of honey? i was thinking 40$.
@bobbinnie9872
4 жыл бұрын
The answer depends on many things. The type and quality of the honey, the location where it is being sold, and the type of customer purchasing it. In some situations $40 would be right, in some it would be a bit high.

What is your honey label and who do you supply?
@bobbinnie9872
4 жыл бұрын
Our label is "Blue Ridge Honey Co". Under our own label we sell to all the Krogers grocery stores in Georgia and a few in South Carolina, about seventy five Walmarts around North Georgia, Ingles grocery and a bunch of smaller grocery stores, produce stands, gift shops and the like. We also bottle as co-packers for other labels that sell to three major chains. Lately we've been packing 60 to 70 drums per week. That's close to max with the equipment and bottling crew we currently have.

What process do you do to clean the piping in the warming room and how do you dry them?
@bobbinnie9872
2 жыл бұрын
The flexible intake tubes are cleaned with hot water and hung to dry. The manifold pipes are only cleaned when we do repairs. Honey runs through them twice a week and even the inspectors agree, why wash them?

Very impressive. I like the stainless pipe to drop in the barrels. That would prevent a hose melting. Some barrels are taller than others. How long is the barrel pipe?
@bobbinnie9872

Pick up pipe is 36'' long x 1,1/2" stainless steel. The honey isn't enough to melt plastic.
