One thing I didn’t like my recent bike trip through the Alps was the difficulty to embrace the dirtbag lifestyle. Everything there is so nice, clean, and put together. On one rainy day I walked into a cafe soaking wet and muddy and felt so uncomfortable around the white tablecloths and well dressed locals. There’s just something about the emptiness we have in North America that is so much more suited to the way I want to travel- easy wild camping, long stretches between towns, and getting a bit feral :) great video!

Yes! It really did feel - especially in Switzerland - less comfortable because of that. Plus, where we live on the west coast is especially ambivalent about personal appearance, so it was even more obvious.

Watch us complain about our summer vacation! It'LL bE fUn! Seriously, though, we'd love to know we're not alone. Have you ever been somewhere that you should have loved but just... didn't?

We are the same! Eurovelo Routes and riding by rivers gets boring quickly!

Glad we’re not alone! It feels weird to complain about perfection but…

Enjoyed the vid, since you mentioned the heat, why the clothing choice? Just curious, I am with you on the relaxed clothing versus Lycra but in our tours we run a Columbia equivalent Omni shade shirts. Did you adjust as the heat continued beyond the rivers and airing out?

We both get kind of bad reactions to sunscreen and avoid wearing it if we can. Plus it feels gross. Lightweight long sleeved sunshirts have always treated us well, though it worked less well in this humidity (which we hadn’t experienced in a bike before).

Hearing about this series of dams meant to prevent flooding is really hitting home right now with all the damage and death from Hurricane Helene (and decades of poor planning and climate change denial) all over the news. Thanks for sharing. The views weren't just beautiful, they were also inspiring.

…..Gluttons for punishment- it’s nice to know I’m not alone🫤 Komoot and breathing can be highly overrated at times. Alberto looks like he loves his job (be thankful?) …. Once we went on a rafting trip, built-up to be a seriously wild water-way. Unfortunately Coming from rafting in the California high Sierra ruff water rivers, the trip turned out to be a dud for an exhilarating adventure compared what we were used to. 👎 Once again nice video!👍BTW how’s the “New” bike working out ?🙃

Yeah, it's partly about prior experience, I guess. We're just used to things being hard, so when they're not, we're let down. It's doing pretty well, but it's too big for me (Hillary) unfortunately... but I have a new bike in the works! Maybe this one will be my forever bike. :)

Sounds to me you should have turned south instead of north and maybe avoid Europe in the future. Europe tends to be predictable and boring, availability of facilities is great, but a sense of adventure can be hard to find. There are so many much more interesting places to tour.

We were kind of wondering if that was true, and it made us a little less excited about cycling there in the future -- but I also think we just picked one of the most touristy parts of Europe. We're definitely motivated to check out places with a lower population density!

@@slow_spokes Pretty much the whole of Europe is touristy, but you could certainly have picked better places in this respect. The way I look at it the real adventure is found in less developed places with different cultures where things are a bit less predictable. But in the end, a lot depends on what exactly you're looking for, challenges and adventures come in all kinds of colors and flavors.

Yeah, they're different! We have noticed that they at least know where their corners are. We got more comfortable with them getting so close after a while.
