I am hoping to get into heirloom apples and other fruits soon. Cool to see people taste test some varieties.

My neighbor used to grow Empire. The family asked me to grow Empire so I planted a few. Interesting to see how they will turn out.

From what I understand, they are best straight off the tree. I've been eating some more left over from the tastings and am really enjoying them! DId a taste comparison with honeycrisp and while honeycrisp is more crisp, I think Empire has better flavour.

I might buy an empire tree now. Says CA doesn’t have enough chilling hours but I’ve had success with others that say that

@@JJBoudreau I'd love to see and do a taste test with low chill apples. Any really good ones you would recommend?

have been experimenting cooking a lot of apples this year. i prefer the European style apple pie. i have tried both. you can combine the 2. thats pretty good. my mother always used the apples that stayed hard. after cooking the apples down for pie first, i think the flavor is much better. you can keep the pie and apples from forming that juice at the bottom and getting soggy. best apples i have cooked down this year have been cheery cox and Karmijn that maybe a sin for some as these are amazing eaters too.
