Great iob Nate. I have an '18 2500 4x4 6.4, but I don"t have the patience for this. I love the 6.4/no problems in 75,000 miles but I usually drive my '79 F350 4x4 with a swapped in 460. No mds , sensors, computers ,just low tech. I've had it for over 25 years and it hasn't crapped out yet.

In the process of this, do you just leave the wiring for the solenoids sitting dead after installing the plugs? Also what is the sensor at the front directly above the camshaft grouped with the harness for the solenoids?

Yep dead headed wires and cam timing actuator

So a lot of speculation that mds is one of the main reason for cam shaft failure yet everything I research or video I watch never really proves it just assumes it. Personally I'm gonna say improper oil changes or lack of them .

Every one I've seen was due to needle bearing failure in the lifters ..
@DL101ca

It happens to non mds vehicles as well, main issue is poor lubrication to the lifters at idle. If you idle your vehicle excessively chances are you will have this issue, regardless of MDS. The 5.7s in the HD trucks suffer from these lifter issues and they don't have MDS from factory.

How do you explain ram 1500 with hemis and owners reporting 200,000 miles with zero issues and excessive idle times aswell. Mine has 114,000 and I just bought it a month ago with that many miles on it and absolutely no tick noise or engine light. And yet the carfax on my truck shows consistent oil changes through out its life span.

Yeah the mds actually oils the lifters better when it's enabled due to the high pressure needed. Deleting the mds is foolish.

I have an 2007 Charger RT w/mds. I have over 210k and no issues with mds. And my owner is manual it suggests 3 months or 3000 miles for severe driving condition on oil changes or non-severe is every 6 months or 6,000 miles. Since over 94% of all Americans driving a severe driving condition, I do mine every 3,000 miles.

Would buying a tuner edge pulsar etc and just turning off the mds be just as beneficial or atleast good in the long run instead of actually deleting the mds system?

I had to do this job because of a failed lifter / cam lobe.. I see no reason to tune it out unless doing the full delete

Nope find one that has already been deleted if you want a Dodge .. It will cost about 3k to have it done right ✅

Have to atleast drop it .. to get pickup tube off .. but I would reccomend pulling it and cleaning it out .. as metal from the cam builds up under the drain plug

Never removed the starter and oilpan when I cammed my 2015. Changed out all the lifters as well. The one thing that made me cringe was the scouring pad used to clean the head gasket surface. You can never guarantee that grit doesn't end up in your bearing surfaces with the engine in the car. Only use gasket cleaner and plastic blades to clean and avoid potential headaches later on.

Thats why oil pan was removed .. and an entire case of brake clean .. then oil changed again shortly after initial start up .. engine was already full of metal shavings from cam failure a little more grit wasn't hurting anything
