I love that Hendrix y'all are talking about. Classic video, classic story behind that as well. It's worth reading the background to Jimi playing that hear my train on the 12 string in a dudes apt in NYC if I'm not mistaken. If it's true, amazing. Man, what a badass 12 string Marty is playing too. That MF is sweet.

C Standard is the tuning. I had a hard time figuring this out. For a 12 string tune low to high: c3 C2 - f3 F2 - a#3 A#2 - d#4 D#3 - G3 G3 - C4 C4. Lower cases represent higher octave strings.

I believe Leo Kottke tunes down to C. He recommends tuning a 12 string down quite a bit because it makes the guitar sound fuller. He says standard tuning makes a 12 string sound like a mandolin.

This is a fun one. Tidbits on the tuning, interesting. Love the E blues on acoustic. Great, Marty. You have done much for The Blues at all levels. Your free courses are good and the *buy purchases* are the icing on the cake. Once you zero in on what style of music you like, pick up a few courses, everyone. My ex ole lady..r.i.p. was a great player, she dug your stuff and subbed your channel too. Good times..it's been a few years I dont want or need any condolences that wasn't the point of bringing it up, just saying you touch people bc you are a beautiful person on the inside I'm quite sure. If you aren't? You sure as hell deserve an Oscar and lead in the next scorses flick man bc you can act your ass off. Naw, can't fake being a genuine nice person. It's easy to see in a man or womans eyes. Much love buddy. Yah bless!

Marty, that was prrfect, just wonderful playing. Sometimes we connect with stuff. I like this one because it goes with Gilmores "wish you were here. It shows how adaptable that pentatonic really is, and it definently boils down to technique or feel if you want. I'll be playing that as soon as I'm home, didnt know it was tuned down that far, but it makes sense the strings are too stiff other wise, cant get those bends that high up! thank you

Marty, my man! That beard is coming along nicely. I have a whole new respect for you. You are truly a Brother of the Beard now. ☺ As for the music, Hendrix may have played in that style (and he did), but he sure didn't invent it. That style goes way, way back, before BB, before Muddy... And I totally dig it. Old style country blues is my favorite thing to do on a guitar. Although the old guys used to use their fingers, doing the bass with their thumb and the licks with the other fingers. I have a hard time with that (though I keep trying), so I have been working on adapting that stuff to the pick. I'm not sure which way Hendrix did it, but you do a good pick rendition. Some of the old tunes I think would be a bit harder to play with a pick, though, because the rhythm and timing is so intricate. You basically have to simplify it, cut it down to a more bare bones version. One of these days I will hopefully learn it the right way, but in the mean time, it's a fun and useful exercise to try and adapt it to different ways of playing.
