my dream car here but in the Kia Stinger blue color and the wheels from the regular Optima SX! Would want an all electric car but I commute back and forth from home to college and my college has zero electric car charging stations unfortunately so it's not practical so this phev is the perfect compromise and the Optima looks fantastic and so stylish inside and out!

The Kia Optima PHEV uses the same hybrid system (batteries and charger) that my Sonata PHEV uses. Mine has so far spent 50 days in service, because it twice failed to charge those batteries. I am trying to get Hyundai to buy it back (lemon laws of CA), and they are treating me with disrespect. I urge anyone considering this Kia PHEV to review on-line user forums for more information. Had my broken starter parts not been under warranty, these repairs would have cost me over $6,000 to fix. Remember, the batteries are guaranteed forever to the original owner, but not the starter parts.

Don't forget to factor in the $4,900 federal tax credit for this PHEV (the tax credit varies by make/model and is based on the battery capacity). Also, some states have additional tax credits; in Oregon, there is a $750 tax credit for installing a 240V rapid charger in your garage (full installed price is around $1,500).

Thanks for the video. Right now I rented a regular 2017 Optima 2.4 liters and I think is the slowest car I have ever driven! However, the suspension, body structure, space, fit and finish are excellent. Can you give a little info in how the car responded regarding acceleration?
@chrisguzman4633

ferisarr that's the base engine. If you want better power, go for the turbo engines that the EX, SX, and SXL models have. Much better

G G thanks but I wanted to compare the basic non turbo with the hybrid for fuel economy. The turbo is faster but consumes more fuel than a 3.5 V6.

It seemed like a lot of your miles per gallon numbers were in the mid to upper 20's This seems a lot lower then the EPA estimates, why do you think the mpg were so low?
@RogerL

I meant low to mid 30s mpg, seems to be below the 40/46 EPA numbers. Is this correct and if so why?

People who do cocain also "like cocain". :) But yeah, there are some "more" natural energy sources... BTW, on the cars.. when you have a newer car, you should hide all the logo's with some tape and ask people their opinion of what brand it looks like and if looks premium, or not.

Oh really? Here in NY the charging stations at work charge $0.20 per KWhr. My co-worker has a Volt that has a 10 KWhr battery pack. The charging station dishes out 12 Kwhr to charge his 10 KWhr battery (chalk it up to charging inefficiency). That costs $2.40. The car then goes about 37 miles (under the BEST of circumstances) on that $2.40. In NY a gallon of gas is about $2.40. So in effect he paid $2.40 to go 37 miles which you can do in MOST compact cars on the highway. So where is the savings? You can do the same math for a Tesla model S which in 2012 had a 60 KWhr battery pack and costs about $14 to charge up in NY (assuming about the same charging efficiency as the Volt above). That $14 will go 208 miles which if you do the math comes out to be around 38 MPG because $14 will buy you about 5.5 gallons of gas at $2.50 per gallon. So you pay $70k to $90k to buy something that gets you 37 MPG basically. Yes you go real fast but then you are not getting 208 miles per charge then. To get that 208 miles of range you are lugging around a battery pack that is 1200 lbs. That is crazy. I have never seen something more stupid in my life. You can go out and get a Prius, or an Accord Hybrid both of which will get you over 45 MPG without having to resort to such stupidities. That and LITHIUM ION batteries contain some of the most toxic stuff. What happens to all those battery packs that go bad and need to be discarded? There is nothing cost effective or green about plugin hybrids.
