Counterclockwise winds from Hurricane Ian are pulling water from the Hillsborough River and Tampa Bay, exposing some of the bay floor.
As Hurricane Ian draws near, winds are pulling water from Tampa Bay. Experts warn walking on it is dangerous.
As of the 11 a.m. advisory, Hurricane Ian is continuing to gain strength as an "extremely dangerous" Category 4 storm. It is located about 45 miles west of Naples, Florida, with sustained winds of 155 mph - just two miles per hour away from being a Category 5 hurricane.
Ian's movement is north-northeast at 9 mph.
At 10 a.m., the NHC provided an update and said a life-threatening storm surge is expected along the southwest coast of Florida as hurricane-force winds draw closer.
Hurricane Ian is approaching the west coast of Florida where it is expected to make landfall as a "catastrophic hurricane" on Wednesday and will continue to move onshore.
