I feel like for most players rapid is the most fun. You don't feel like you're having a heart attack like bullet and you aren't playing games that take forever. It's fun for 20 mins and you get to come up with good strategies, good ideas, etc. This was pretty funny, though.
@joaoguilherme-ug9tu

well, all i can say about that is that people that like bullet will disagree and people that play rapid will agree.
@ClarkPotter

I'm 2000+ in blitz, bullet, and do well vs 2000+ opposition in time controls of ~90mins or so... But I'm a 1730 player at rapid because you need time management and I don't enjoy pruning my exploration space for practical purposes. You don't need time management so much in the same way for extremely fast or long time controls. It's still there, but not as painful as the middle time controls. You actually need efficient thinking at that time control.

It's like the 3000m in track. When you get to an elite level in running, 3000m can be super weird. It's not long enough for you to get into a groove like the 5000m or 10000m. But it's not quite short enough to be an extended sprint like the 800m or 1500m. Just an awkward and annoying middle ground. Pick a lane!

@@lmvdam I ran track in the NCAA (D1). Assuming you mean 12 minute run, my Coopertest distance would be 4000m, not 3000 lol. My point is about competing in the 3000m at a high level, not finishing a 3km run. At the highest level, it's an extremely awkward distance to compete at. At least for me it was. I was much more comfortable competing at either 1500m, or 5000m.

I bet what Dubov said dealt some damage to Hikaru’s pride and he probably laughed to try to belittle Dubov’s opinion in order to protect his pride. His laugh was probably 50% genuine. But for these reasons I can’t trust Hikaru anymore or watch his videos anymore. He’s not transparent and I don’t actually know what he’s thinking when he’s not being a complete asshole.

The secret to great chess is never going above 1000 rating. Because once you do, you have to play smarter, and learn openings, and study stuff, and it becomes a choir. Below 1000, you can play anything you want, and no one cares, because they're also playing exactly what they want.
