The July 2024 Vermilion Historical Society presentation features Abbeville resident, Mr. Lloyd Doré, speaking about the historic film, “LOUISIANA STORY” - in celebration of the film’s 75th anniversary.
For decades, Mr. Doré has been researching and discovering fascinating insights into this beautiful film which has deep Vermilion Parish and Iberia Parish roots. The film by legendary Director, Robert J. Flaherty, is regarded by film critics as a visual masterpiece. Shot mainly on Bayou Petite Anse on Avery Island, and employing local townsfolk in the cast, it made its Southern debut at the Frank’s (Dixie) Theater in Abbeville in 1949. It went on to garner worldwide praise and recognition including Academy Award Nominations and the Pulitzer Price for Virgil Thompson’s musical score. Mr. Doré unveils fascinating details about this Louisiana film treasure!
