Most people know that the German military tested and adopted the Luger P08 but very little people know that the U.S. Army actually tested the Luger before the Germans did. The U.S. Army in 1901 tested out around 1000 Luger M1900 pistols. They could be identified actually by the American Eagle crest on the frame and were field trsted by cavalry, infantry, officers and other specialized units. There were also 20,000 Luger pistols that made their way into the commercial market. This video goes into the history of the pre-WW1 and iconic American Eagle Lugers.
