Excellent video. Thank you! I have looked for bad relays and or a circuit breaker none to be found. I’ve had no luck replacing control boxes from my working HMMWV’s to my latest purchase that is a much older model (93) 1097R1. With a confirmed good control box no power to the heater blower motor no power to the glow plugs and no power to the parking brake light. So I’ll order this glow plug control and see if this is the issue. The working control box’s I’m using for problem diagnosis, is however from turbo models is there a difference?

My truck would still start without any smoke or running rough, likely due to the warm summer weather. Before I fixed it, when the wait light was flashing briefly I did notice it took more cranking to start. It was probably by less than 1 second longer but it was noticeable. Best of luck with your truck.

Another thing I want to add is if you have original NATO batteries (like I do in my 1097R1) if you leave the light switches off on start up that will help reduce the voltage pull... but it's probably best not to rely on this method for long like I have. I'm hoping a topoff will do the trick but it's probably best to replace them.

I always start mine with the lights off. It actually says to do so in the operators manual (TM 9-2320-280-10, pg 2-106) as well.

@@midnightmachineshop I will be doing that from now on. Made that bad habit the first day I got it. I was so excited that I disregarded most of that stuff. Now it's stuck with me unintentionally

Thanks for the Video! Ran the test for voltage at the glow plug boot but got no voltage until I hear the click from the smart box then a get 22 volts for a spit second also Wait light comes on and doesn't time out but even with it on still no voltage at glow plug boot. Battery gauge does go into the yellow while the wait light is on.

To start I'd take a look under the dash and see what brand and model of start box you have. Some are known to have chronic issues. If you are comfortable with it, it is possible to take a look inside to see if there are any obvious burned out parts or other damage by removing all of the small perimeter screws. However some models of start box are permanently shut. After disconnecting the batteries in the truck, then you can remove the box from the truck (4 mounting bolts by the washer tank and the two electrical connectors) and get it on the workbench to take a look.

Had the repair been more involved than the Temperature Sending Unit for the start box, that's the way I was probably going to go.
