I've literally spent every night for an entire week trying to tune a set of stabs with little success. I've never experienced it that easy in the 2 years I've been doing keyboards... :/

be warned: holle modding zeal stabs can result in a very mushy break in period due to the reduced space in the stem compared to durock v2s. To accelerate the break in process, I recommend extra time to be spent flattening the bandaid to the stem, and also pre-soaking it with whatever lubricant you are using on the wires (of course, with the bandaid already installed... or else the adhesive won't work)

Thank you very much for doing this video on the holee mod. I thought my boards sounded decent before. But after trying it out on all the stabs for 2 of my hotswap boards (NK65 EE and a 60% alu case), my boards sound SO MUCH better! I never knew my boards could make such sounds before, its like unlocking the potential that I never knew existed out of these boards. The holee mod removes that annoying metallic ticking sound that is produced when the metal stab wire hits the stabiliser stem when we push down on the key. I had thought my quality everglide screw in stabs didn't produce any ticking sound. But upon closer sound comparison with my holee modded stabs. I DID notice a subtle ticking with the screw in stabs that I never really paid attention to before. After holee modding all my everglide screw in stabs, it resulted in the stab keys having a much more muted, more homogeneous sound profile as compared to the other normal keys. When I do a typing test, the entire keyboard sounds smoother, as I can't tell the difference in sound when I press on a spacebar, a shift key or a normal key. The typing sounds and experience has become so much more satisfying, that I'm buying desoldering tools to desolder all my other boards to holee mod all the stabs moving forward.

Using the right bandaid and a good pair of small scissors makes this a lot easier. Also I found it easier to cut the bandaid by peeling the cover off, turning it 90 degrees and putting it back on. That way you can cut the bandaid without the scissors sticking but you can still peel off the cover since it will stick out past the ends of the bandaid.

I think the issue with these methods is longevity. The metal bar is constantly in contact with the band-aid/fabric. Which means friction, fraying resulting in a hole. The fabric pads are very, very thin and aren't gonna last very long compared to lube, which you can just apply them when it dries out.

IMPORTANT: Make sure your bandaid is not that thick! If it's even just a bit too thick, it will cause the stabs to become incredibly mushy, and makes the bandaid almost impossible to completely remove from the stems, making it pretty much irreversible. Use medical tape if you have it, since that probably the best thickness for this.

maybe it's cause I'm using different stabilizers, or band aids that are too thick or fray apart too easily, but I notice that the stabilizer sometimes end up getting jammed when I go and I do this mod. I think what's going on is that the part of the band aid that gets bent & wraps around ends up protruding out a bit, and that protrusion ends up hitting against the stabilizer housing. Does anyone else experience this? What do you do to get around this issue?

0:57 Thanks for actually doing a tools and parts list instead of just assuming we'll have them or getting us to go through the whole video noting down parts or something. Also I think the plasters can be medical tape and I was going to say aluminum tape but apparently 1:11 You need some cushioning not just extended hard surface which is what aluminum tape is for although perhaps if you just want 1 bit of medical tape and no more cushioning you might but a layer or two of aluminum tape on first (or last? I think first so it isn't just a tower of tape and so it has a solid foundation) for a more snug fit. 2:19 So basically you ideally want a flat bottom on stablisers in the first place but if you dont have that then clip them and possibly sand them/nail file them if they're still not flat? Imma stop timestamping good video all around from 0:57 onwards, details explanations and actually telling you WHY you're doing things, might download this video and cut the parts before 0:56 as its a really good tutorial. The testing aswell damn, really good, I will put this comment in the same folder as a readme for this video.

The ultimate solution to meaty or attling stabilisers are Costar stabiliser period. Costar stabiliser feel smooth to press and depress, with no room for meatiness. It's also much more forgiving for pressing at edges of keycap than Cherry style can. And for the lubing, you only need to lube/oil the 2 contacts of wire, that's with the mounts and with the stabilisers insert, much more direct and effective lubing which last well over time.
