Also, have you installed MQTT? I'm having a heck of a time getting that going. I can't find a current video that explains the installation process very well. Most are a year old or describe things that don't seem to be in line with what is current. A vid on that too! ;)

Mine does not say, "Hass.io" but rather "Supervisor". I also had to enable advanced settings or something like that before all add-ons were enabled. After enabling advanced features, it took several minutes for these new add-ons to become available.

Thankyou yes..after I released this video they did a major rewrite and changed a ton of stuff. I have to remake this at this point so much has changed! I’ll note these changes when I do my update, Thankyou for pointing them out! It’s tough trying to keep up with a fast moving software project with videos :)

Thankyou so much, that made my day! Apologies for the slow responses, just got some videos out and trying to catch up. I really appreciate the kind comment, I put alot of effort into making the best use of the viewers time, and trying to cover things in a unique and direct way (Basically I make the video I'd want to watch :) ). I haven't watched the whole video yet, but what are you using to receive voice commands? Some alexa device or just a microphone in the room? I have smartthings and alexa, and just discovered home assistant yesterday. I would love to get home assistant working to replace my smartthings hub and control using voice that isn't tied to alexa (so something like VoiceAttack etc) with putting my own microphones in each room. Is that possible? EDIT: Also, how is your home assistant talking to your zwave or zigbee devices? Are you using a raspberry pi with some kind of zwave/zigbee dongle?

An Alexa device. I should do a full video at some point of how this works end to end because IMO it’s not well documented...Alexa can talk to home assistant through Nabu Casa (or if you do your own networking tricks you can DIY it). I’m using Nabu Casa which is 5 dollars a month but helps get home assistant working with cloud services

It's addictive...there are SO many different things you can do with it and devices you can buy to plug into it. Energy monitoring, location tracking, then there's an entire world of dashboard customizations which may lead to wall mounted tablets...it's a rabbit hole of geeky fun! I'm hoping to have more videos out about it soon, but I want to slow down and improve my video quality a bit...I'm trying to balance getting content out with making it visually appealing (though sometimes I think just getting the data out is important!)

There are a number of integrations for that, including Sense I believe. I'd check out the integrations list and then you can research from there...also if you add in the influxdb addin you can get historical data that you can query, and then the graphana addon lets you view it easily!

Hi, what are you using as dimmers?
@geektoolkit
4 жыл бұрын
I'm using GE Zwave dimmers..whatever goes on sale on Amazon. I do have a home seer HS200+ that is cool, but honestly I don't think I have the best ones and would shop around unless you're just looking for a low price. The GE's are reliable, but require a neutral wire, don't have RGBLeds or any of the fancy features newer ones have, and if you do a 3 way you need to swap both sides out with the GE series I'm using. So..that's what I'm using, but not sure it's the best if that helps :)

I'm always doing geek projects and such. So this channel makes it easy to just share my passion for it without having to sell. Helps that this is a hobby and not a job as well. Hearing you say that lets me know I'm on the right track to have fun with it and share my love and appreciation for the crazy tech we have available to us today :)

Hi , perfect timing for me to find your pesentation , i have just installed home assistant on a PI 3 , it took me almost 3 days to realise that once loaded i wouldnt see a desktop , but i had to load a browser to use the thing . then the nightmare of searching for how to use it started so as i say youve perfect timing for me . The Home assistant .io integration page you show has been a light bulb moment for me, however at time stamp 6.06 you go to the configuration yaml? could you advise me how i get to that, you went a little quick for me , i am using a mac i think you are using a windows machine. i have my Pi using wifi and connected to a monitor using a hdmi cable, but i cannot use a mouse of keyboard , i simply cannot work out how to get to the yaml you mention Thanks for the video

Glad it helped!!! See if you can find the configurator plugin in the hass.io section...that should give you a way to edit the Yaml directly. On windows I go to \\myhassioipaddress\config I think it is to get to it. I had to load the samba plugin in has.io to do that. Hopefully one of those helps you out if not let me know. The home assistant Facebook group is helpful too if you’re on there
