Brand: Home Decorators Collection
Model: Junedale
This is a 52” Home Decorators Collection (HDC) Junedale ceiling fan in the Matte Black finish shown with the Black Oak/Cane finished blades. This fan features an integrated light kit that offers (6) color temperature options ranging from 2700K to 6500K. This fan also includes a 3-speed remote control for fan/light operation. According to the information sticker which is located inside the canopy, this fan was manufactured in July 2022 by Chien Luen Industries in China.
I have to admit that this fan/video is a bit of a morbid curiosity for me since I rarely ever showcase something you can buy today, let alone something from Home Depot. In all honesty it’s the modern take on the traditional cane blade design that really got my attention, but I will get into that below.
Installation wise, this fan really wasn’t the easiest. It’s not that anything was complicated but specifically with the way the blades mount, you really need to get into a tight, dark space to get the blade screws in place. Even with that, the fan is just easier to assemble on the ground as I couldn't imagine trying to install the blades with the motor already hanging.
Quality wise the build felt just about average with most components being stamped steel and having light pliability to them. Then there are the blades, which I guess I’m a little conflicted about. On one hand they appear to be made from actual plywood which is a nice step in quality from MDF, but on the other hand... the cane is fake. Looking closely, the cane is nothing more than an embossed print.
Performance wise, this fan is just meh. High speed does move some air but to a degree similar of what you’d find on a Casablanca medium speed. I suppose one of my issues with this fan is the fact that the reverse switch is located at the top of the motor and concealed under the lower canopy cover. From an accessibility standpoint it would have made much more sense to include a reverse button on the remote - instead of a remote location.
While this fan is nothing great in terms of performance and quality, the biggest eye catcher here is the modern take on a cane bladed ceiling fan. By the mid 1990’s cane quickly fell out of fashion, being nearly erased from the U.S. market by the early 2000’s. While over the years there have been several adaptations of wicker/rattan insert fan blades, I think this particular model is a bold iteration considering it’s such a modern style. Personally I’d love to see this design trend pick back up, I think it really can with the popularity of the whole mid-century, Boho-chic style right now.
