I could see these guys being an old timey gang. Austin is your smooth talker, second in command type. Chance is your friendly but dangerous muscle. Adam looked like the crazy one who would shiv a guy for no reason. Rob is the average looking guy who is really the corrupt accountant. Tim of course is your mob boss, especially with the shadows and his expressions when he hit that really low note.

Yes your right, but i wanna add. Austin as a quick draw/hand on jewelries, who talks to women and walk out with there bling. Chance is the muscle spy, but no one would suspect him cause he has a friendly face and demeanor, who walks around in the back ally and pays people to get info of a town. Adam is the driver and who create ruckus or diversion for the group, but has the tendency to go crazy and skin people cause he has schizophrenia. Rob is the inside man, formerly a lawyer, but has an accountant degree, works in banks and offices. Tim the BOSS, makes plans to do all not so good things even escaping from prison (with that look his planing to escape). I'll add Chris who is a corrupt sheriff and one of the accomplice, along with Avi.

Home Free always does covers in their own way, but always does right by them. Rob looks like a friendly janitor. The Adam, Austin and Chance look like trouble on the hoof. Tim looks like you need a restraining order. (Taters aren't evil, the frying is. Getcha an air fryer)

Remember: Cheesecake is health food. You have dairy products (with high calcium, good for bones) plus fruit on top. Two essential food groups. It's hardly worth mentioning the sugar (because it's an inconvenient fact, those should be ignored at all costs when dieting). Home Free makes interesting choices with their covers. Of the lot of guys the only one that didn't move was Tim. Everyone else, if the lineup was real, they would probably get a scolding (or worse), especially Adam and Austin. The heights listed can't be anywhere close to accurate. I don't think Chance is 5 foot 1 or Rob over six foot eight and I doubt Austin and Tim are six foot five. Have you ever been on a tour bus in your life? The bunk beds in those things are geared for folks who are five foot nothing and light weights or contortionists who can fold themselves into small spaces and never get cramps. Great reaction as always. Love the original and cover reaction pairings when you do them. It gives perspective and we get double the greatness.

I have loved Johnny Cash's original for decades, and I'm a hard core Home Free fan. To me there's no comparison between these two renditions even though it's the same song. JC did JC and HF does HF. I absolutely love this and I think it's one of their best to date. I do think they stayed very true to the song, though, I don't think they strayed very far, they just did it in their own way. They got the train going all the way through. Btw, have another look at focus on Adam. He's most definitely on the insane ward.

I knew you'd enjoy Tim's moment there. That smirk. He knows what he does. I wasn't sure how I felt about this one at first but by the time it got to the end, I was loving it. And yeah, Tim is totally the mastermind here. Austin looks like the sidekick who thought they were just going for donuts when Tim said "Let's hit the Krispy Kreme," and when he realized what was happening, just rolled with it. Rob is the manager of the Krispy Kreme who was just getting to work and got mixed up in the chaos. Chance was leaving the Costco across the street, stopped to rubberneck, and got arrested as the getaway car. Adam is the escaped mental patient who found an orange onesie vaguely similar to the others and snuck into the lineup just for a laugh.

Home Free brought in all the nuances to make you feel like you are there in the middle of it all. They brought in the train, Blues repeatation vibe, the gun, the cries, the prison restraint, and creepy looks. I loved it! Great arrangement again from Darren Rust their producer. Great to see you having fun with this one, and watching the older version first doesn't mean having to pick one - as you said, Home Free pay tribute by doing their best version of a song, rather than by trying to sound exactly like the original. As for the guys, it's amazing what lighting can do to make people look different - but Tim in particular was certainly playing up the bad guy vibes. Did you see that smirk after he hit the low note? He then posted that he took no responsibility for blown headphones or speakers. 🤣

The first time I listened to this, because I am used to the Cash version, I didn't click with this. Thought it was going to be the only time that I liked an original better...BUT after I listened to it several times... it grew on me.. and had a nice jam going... and then realized the guys "ooh ohhs" in the background actually gave me the impression of a train... And you can't deny Tim's lows rocking the house. And yes Tim looks evil in this, Adam looks like the guy you don't want to mess with cause that dude is crazy! Chance looks like a tough guy, and Austin looks like he's just looking for trouble, only one who is innocent is Rob lmao!

I don't think about it as Cash vs Home Free. This is Johnny's lyrics and brilliant storytelling, and the guys took the spirit and lyrics, adhered to their strengths, and paid homage to a lost legend. I like how you are handling covers here. I have ALWAYS been all about NOT comparing or deciding which is better...No, no...what I do is respect the original on its own merit.. then when I listen to a cover I try to discern 1) did they make it there own (aka not sound like karaoke). 2) did they maintain the integrity of the original while not "trying to be a sound alike". 3) did they make it relevant/current in some way (assuming the original was older). If they do that Then I appreciate & respect it on its own merit as well. and as usual IMO thats exactly what Home Free did a and did masterfully. Johnny is Johnny and the original is intact and they made a great relevant current version.. its that simple for me.

Not everyone will like a song, but appreciate & respect the hard work to put it together. It's supposed to be fun! Pretty good video NOT being around each other in proximity. Johnny Cash wrote this based on documentary about life in Folsom Prison. "He" wasn't in prison when he wrote it. He was in the military in Germany near an actual prison. He did the live version in the actual prison but he wasn't a prisoner there. He wrote one line based on what was the worse he thought could be done. That's where he wrote about killing a man just to know what it felt like. Point? Where's did serious & sullen supposed to be mood? He was smiling before he sings it, & smiled afterwards. It wasn't 'his' experience. It's like someone watched 'The Lion King' and then wrote a song about it. Is it his life? No, so why the somberness? So, was it supposed to be EXACTLY like Johnny Cash's original? NO! It's a take on the song, buy the original if like that. In some ways it generates interest in a song wrote & made famous 60 something years ago. The family of Cash get's the royalties. Dolly Parton was thrilled when Whitney Houston sang her son, it made her wealthier. Chris Stapleton also a songwriter has few exemptions of others singing his songs, it makes him too wealthier.

Michael you are just cracking me up this morning! I’m here laughing and trying not to choke on my breakfast! Johnny Cash’s original is straightforward and much more country with that bass guitar beat. Home Free gave it a more bluesy, jazzy feel with some of the chords, the adlibs and the breakdown in place of the instrumentals. While this is not my favorite JC song, I like the “gumbo” that Home Free creates. Loved both of your reactions.

Thanx for the reaction... I hear what you’re saying... About covers and originals... I would like to add my thoughts... As far as covers go, A cover is not a copy, And the band performing the cover should perform it so that their own interpretation comes through, while doing justice to the original. Perfect example being Johnny Cash doing HURT. Home Free is one of the few bands that are able to pull off cover after cover after cover, and do it extremely well. ...... While you reading... I got a reaction request, from another genera and artist.. Prince .. DMSR.. Live in Detroit, 2004, Musicology Tour, Or Prince ... 1+1+1=3.. I’ll probably be lambasted, but I was never into Johnny Cash’s style of music, not too much Country music back in his time period. These guys here could sing Baby Shark and probably make me love it! lol Ok, not really. They do have a way of introducing their fans to music we’re either unfamiliar with or don’t like into something special that we love! This is definitely one of those songs! They did keep @Ring of Fire pretty close, but put a touch of reggae beat, but that one went viral! I realize that some diehard Cash fans might not care for this. That’s ok!
