51:50, couldn’t agree more! Couldn’t listen to my system at reference level as it was incredibly loud and hash. After I’ve treated my cinema with acoustic panels and bass traps, reference level is perfect.

Living in a condo with a 5.2.4 setup, I could not hang back surrounds on wall. I had two full size bookshelf speakers(HTD series 3) not being used so I laid them on their backs on top of wood blocks behind my seating position with speakers against back wall facing ceiling. Yamaha YPAO calibration set a louder level for them and I laser distanced them from my ear level. The results actually added a nice ambient sound to back of my seating area. I like it better than using back Atmos/presence speakers. Im able to switch between back atmos or back surrounds and back surrounds engaged make everything sound more detailed.

Great info, i have my LR speakers around 80cm out from the edge of my TV, its basically enough to fit a medium sized subwoofer between them and the TV. I find it works well and adds some seperation from the centre, creating a wider soundstange compared to placing them directly on the edge of the TV... not sure if this is the correct way, but it definately sounds better to me.

Side surrounds pretty well need to be built into the wall or ultra slim speaker cabinets.

So would like to know if 5.2.4 better than 7.2.2? In my case to do 7.2.2 the rear two channels would be in ceiling angled towards listener. Meaning the rear atmos will be reassigned as rears. Any thoughts?

Polk Audio Reserve speakers vs KEF Q series for home theatre? (looks on paper to be roughly the same ball park specs and price wise?)

Don't base audio on numbers. You have too listen.

I tried to get these guys to design the perfect acoustic room based on a blank slate. They said they were too busy.

Hi. We always take on work and never knock anyone back.. it could have been that the wait time was to long as sometimes that is an issue. Unfortunately we do room designs on a global scale and the wait can be up to 4 weeks. Get back in touch and we will always try to help

Shane: "Where do the Atmos speakers go?" That's your first mistake right there Shane. Setup for Auro 3D instead.

Atmos is better. C'mon.

@@therealshanelee Hey, thanks for the reply on this slightly older video. I want Atmos to be better, because it's so much more readily available. My life would be so much easier if it's better. But I'm moving speakers about and testing them against each other, and I'm fining Auro to be better. I want to test the Matrix scene that Andrew mentioned - there are some good Atmos recordings where I'm happy with Atmos, but there are so many poor Atmos recordings (looking at you Disney) where it sounds miles better dropping Atmos and upmixing (yes, seriously, upmixing) to Auro 3D instead. And on the recordings which are decent in Atmos, they also sound decent when upmixed to Auro. Have you tried positioning your speakers as recommended by Auro (even temporarily), and comparing? It won't work if your speakers are too high, they need to work in unison with the base layer speakers. It goes without saying that you want the best. Please don't discount it without checking it out. And check out what your fellow youtubers think (eg, Daily Hifi).

@@Triggaaar I've tried it out. I don't find it to be that natural sounding while upmixing most material unless it's native Auro. Dolby upmixing sounds more realistic with my equipment. DTSX pro has been growing on me. Auro sounds more of an extension of the lower channels.

@@therealshanelee If you've positioned your Heights at 30 degrees and tried it out, then fair enough. Your conclusion does seem different to others who have tried it, who find it more natural. Can I ask what you do for the Atmos tracks where the studios haven't bothered adding much Atmos (other than the music)? I don't have a Trinnov, I have the Denon 8500, and if I unplug my base speakers, I get music in the top channels, without the sound effects (this doesn't apply to all Atmos discs, but it is a lot of them).

@@Triggaaar I normally don't bother with upmixing. I like to listen the way it is natively. Matrixing surround doesn't always work for the best. Some folks just want sound coming from all speakers. Auro would be the one to make that happen. I just think it's to aggressive.
