Funny responses, it's easy to sit back and criticize. My thought is that it takes a lot more ingenuity and creativity to make something than it does to run out to Home Depot and buy it. I say Bravo to Scott's Garage. I'm subscribing and will look at your other videos with much pleasure!

Every time I read comments on you tube I notice there are so many experts, I notice the safety police, you didn't ask them for safety expertise you were only showing us how to build a DIY clamp. Thank you for showing your experience in making these clamps.

Nice job, here's a little tip if your using Tnuts, tap them in lightly then remove them, pre-drill the marks with a 1/8 bit. Sink them in the pre-drill and sink 2 1/2 inch screws in the little V notches. They won't go anywhere.

I hate all the negative comments these clowns leave. We learn by DOING. I like your vids because they are what KZitem was made for: A guy makes something, shows what he did, others learn and make one. You gave all the info I needed to make one. These other guys make fast-forward videos then send me to their website to pay $15 for the cut sheet. I love your videos.

Triple the glue-holding power by laminating some thin strips (3/16th or 1/4 inch, say) to cover over the half-lapped joints such that you've created a kind of glued tenon. That will increase your gluing surface from 1 1/2" square or so to about 4.5" inches square for each end. You could also pin the strips with pegs afterwards.

There are several complicated long reach C clamps on KZitem but THESE are just about the simplest and easiest to make. I suppose the corners could be reinforced or made with bridal joints BUT, what Scott's done here is perfectly workable. As to someone's question as to longevity, "it all depends"...type of use, frequency etc etc. As I envision using such a clamp it would be for leveling boards in a glue up, meaning it would not take a lot of pressure.

Using finger joints as opposed to half-lap joints on the corners would make this clamp much stronger. It's not difficult to cut finger joints on a table saw. As you have built this clamp, I would consider it to be a light duty clamp with force under 100 lbs.

Nice Job!, I've been watching you make different types of clamps and doing a nice job at it too. But every time you use the table saw I keep wondering why you haven't made up feather boards for it?, It would free up one of your hands to help make perfect cuts and safer too, Later Bud

That Dewalt drill motor looked out of place with all Harbor Freight and Ryobi tools. I am very skeptical to buy power tools from HF.....sure I like to save money, but I don't want some piece of junk when I get home... So can you give me your honest opinion about the HF power tools.....do you sometimes get frustrated because of their quality?
@lleevveell66

HF stuff can be fine, if you know how to re-engineer it. Almost every power tool I've gotten from them was crap, until modified, then they were pretty good. I personally use HF as a "stepping stone". I buy the tool cheap, look up common problems and fixes for them, work with them for a year or two, then I have "earned" my way to the better purchases. This allows me to 1) not waste money on large purchases for which I am still unsure what gotchas to look for, 2) learn to REALLY respect and love the larger purchase when it arrives, since I've worked so long getting around the limitations of the HF tool. In most cases, I am also much more intimately aware on the inner working of the tools, by this time, eliminating the fear of opening things up to make adjustments, etc.

LEVEL6 probably more competent than most of us. Good on him. As for me I'd buy HF tools for simple task...flap sander, recip saw. eg. Probably not buy their compound miter saw. Also, several YT HF tool reviews

Good Idea, but I would have done the install of the nuts and the like before I had put the entire item together. That might have been a little easier to do. You would not need to be so twisted in the parts T-nut install. Like the idea, looking to make some my self.

I dont get why when people make homemade c-clamps, they always make the handles so long. They handles they have are mentfor bar clamps. When you have to unthred the thread on your c-clamp a lot, the threads on the other side already take up a lot of space so if you add a handle like that, It would take up even more space

Why not just cut a oblong piece out of a small block of wood to create the C shape clamp ? Would that not save having to cut, Drill, Glue and measure ? Besides they are too small right ? Surely the point of making your own clamp is you can make a large one, After all, A typical C or G clamp can be brought for less than 2 quid
@bobfre1

You can't just push the nuts (or t-nuts) in and expect the threads to work, yet yours seem to.... what's your secret to getting them synchronized???
@GerarddeZwartFietsenmaker
8 жыл бұрын
+bobfre1 I was wondering the same thing. What's the use of the outside nut anyway? It's not taking any force . A metal cilinder/pipe is enough for stabilising the thread. Wouldn't a piece of plywood, preferred hardwood, sawn in shape , have been easier?
@johnware5312
9 жыл бұрын
Your doing that the hard way. Drill the holes through the arms before you glue them up. Put a T nut in the inside of the clamp top, then thread the rod through the t-nit with the bolt head inside. Lastly glue up the camp and then add the handle. Avoids a lot of unneeded chisel work and there's no need to cut off the bolt head. That bolt head becomes the clamp head. Also add a small square of wood to the inside of the lower jaw for clearance. Ive made a bunch like that and I double dowel the lap joints on a 45 degree angle without any brads after the glue sets up. FAR stronger than a few brads. I use oak, far stronger than pine and the price difference is worth it for a reliable clamp.
