I've had my '10 for 3 years. I bought it with 8100 miles, and I don't understand how anyone could own one and not ride the heck out of it. What a great bike for an old, backroad rider like me. The latches on the bags can be a problem, so just be sure to line up the lid before you push it closed. Many happy miles to you, my friend.

it’s July 2024. This machine had two problems with it. One was a completely clogged fuel filter, which is just about 1“ x 1“, it just looks like a piece of gauze, like a coffee filter. The second problem that these machines all had pretty much around the world to the point that Honda was going to do a worldwide recall. The spark plug caps. They are hard plastic like material and I suppose they develop voltage leak when they get old and cranky from being baked in that hot environment at the top of the engine. Electricity will take the shortest path to ground, and sometimes when you have bad spark, plug, wires, or caps, that is voltage that is not going to make its way all the way to the spark plug to jump the gap. The symptoms of a bad spark plug cap- it feels like someone turned the key off and right back on for a split second. Usually at low RPMs when you can feel it. I replaced my spark plug caps with OEM spark, plug caps, while I was in there, I coated the spark plug wires with dielectric grease from the coils all the way to the caps. And I installed a new set of NGK spark plugs while I was in there. so to summarize the issues I had with this machine. Spark plug caps, and the fuel filter was completely clogged with a sand like substance that formed in the gas tank. When the original owner told me he put stabilizer in the fuel. I have never used stabilizer in anything ever. After this experience, I will never try it myself. I have videos on KZitem showing the debris that I got out of this gas tank. It looked like someone had put in a half a cup of cream of wheat cereal in the gas tank… I had to remove the fuel pump cassette from the bottom of the fuel tank and clean the debris from around the fuel filter, just to get out the filter. I have several videos on KZitem, showing all of that crap that was smothering my fuel pick up at the fuel pump. I was fortunate that I could get my whole arm inside the gas tank to use a scotch bright pad to loosen all that dried substance that was left inside the fuel tank when I got all the fuel out. That white powder in the gas tank came off the inside of the fuel tank pretty easy with a scotch bright pad. I was able to stick my small camera in the gas cap to verify where the substance was and if I got it all out. I have that video on KZitem also… now that I have a machine sorted out, it has not had one hiccup. It feels like a brand new motorcycle now, as well as looks like one. .. anyone looking for this motorcycle type or some other type of motorcycle, be patient. Over the decades, I have found that there are motorcycles that were bought on an impulse sitting in peoples garage. They have so little concerned about that motorcycle that they won’t even take the time to advertise it for sale. They are out there… you just have to keep your eyes and ears open. I have a habit of looking from the street in peoples garage when they have the door open on the garage. To see if there are any motorcycles in there sitting in the back buried under boxes. I have found quite a few motorcycles like that. A Honda 700 saber with the CBX style fairing and color matched saddlebags. A hawk GT Honda 650, a Kawasaki KDX 175. Practically brand new. A couple Yamaha XS 650 twins. Two Honda CB 400 F bikes. GL 1800 Goldwing with 13 K miles on it 16 years old. That one still has the original tires on it… two Yamaha RDs.. A Yamaha 920 virago.. I think that’s most of the bikes that I spotted just by keeping an eye peeled.. you can see a lot just by lookin.. so if you find a rat, that’s been re-painted and modified, don’t buy it, you will find what you’re looking for if you are patient. It may take years. but they are out there in stock condition.. as a matter of fact, this Honda nt700, I have never ever seen one of these machines on the road. Never. I did see one for sale at a nearby Yamaha shop about eight or 10 years ago. I took it for a ride, I thought about it, I went back a week later, to see if I could negotiate a price that I liked, but when I got there, the bike had already been sold, same color.. but other than that one, I have never seen one of these machines before. They are more rare than Ferraris around here.

that throttle position sensor issue that I thought this Machine Had- disappeared. I had the machine out today to get the oil very hot to do an oil change/oil filter change/final drive oil change, so I was out for about an hour and a half… there was not even one hint of that issue I had with the hesitation in my first two videos of my first ride on the machine .. I don’t know what it was. I’m actually thinking that it was bad gas. Because this machine still has a lot of spiderwebs under the chassis, under the motor on the center stand and side stand. So this machine has been sitting, probably with old methanol fuel that does not sit well. It’s stratifies and absorbs humidity right out of the air.. I know that good gas added to bad gas does not make bad gas good, the bad gas makes good gas bad.. So I am pretty sure that those occasional hesitations I had on my first ride on this machine were caused by bad fuel..

thanks Ray. I’ve been following your travels. I just wish you would identify where you were at each stop. I’m glad you had your bike serviced before you left. Do you have a leather riding jacket? I felt bad for you wearing that ski jacket when you were cold. Nothing stops the wind like leather. weather is not warm when it is cold, but it does stop the wind. That’s why I buy mine, one size larger so that I can put a good sweatshirt were an electric vest under the jacket. as for my new to me motorcycle. It is a 2010 Honda NT 700. It will be 14 years old in a couple months .. Nice clean unmolested motorcycles are out there just sitting in peoples garages.. The guy I bought it from Bought at new, and he averaged around 535 miles a year. I have done rides of the more miles than that in one day a few times… Did you check out the videos that I suggested to you by a guy who’s channel is named, --dirty, motorcycle, vagabond? his name is joe, and he sold everything and just follows the sun. In the winter, he goes to Mexico, in the nice weather, he goes to big bike shows like Daytona, Myrtle Beach, Sturgis, and he works for a vendor for that week or 10 days. And he does what you were pretty much doing last week, except that he lives off of his motorcycle most of the time, unless he’s visiting friends, or his mom or his girlfriend in Mexico. But most of the time he camps out in a tent in the woods, or near a truckstop so he can use the bathroom in the shower, or swim in the nearby, river or stream.. he asks viewers to contribute a few bucks, I’ve sent him some money a couple times, because I like his videos You are very skilled at making videos, I believe you could do the same thing

You have opened my eyes to the NT700 Jody . I don't believe that they sold them in Canada but you can import bikes into Canada from the US if its 15 years old I think . I am going to watch your videos but also research the bike more to see what I can learn about them . They were / are very popular in Europe as you were saying in the first video . Thank you

So I just make videos that are part one, part two, part three, and so on if it is a long drawn out. procedure.. I’m still learning

update, May 2024. Two minutes into the beginning of this video that was made in november 2023 a few days after i bought it, the machine stalled as I attempted to pull away from the traffic light. That was a separate issue from fuel filter being clogged as it turns out later from the fuel stabilizer that was in the gas tank, hardened into a mass at the bottom of the tank that loosened from driving the bike, and eventually loosened enough of that mass to clog the fuel filter. I have a few videos I made after this video on KZitem showing what an ordeal it was to clean the inside of the gas tank from that hardened mass of something that slowly loosened as I rode the bike, and the fuel filters got clogged. There are two fuel filters inside the fuel tank, one attached directly to the bottom of the fuel pump… it’s more of a flat screen about is fine as a coffee filter. And there is a filter wrapped around the fuel filter Assembly that is some flexible mesh, I believe it’s made out of plastic, rolled up and wrapped around the bottom of the fuel filter intake. It obviously works because in one of my following videos after this video, I show just how plugged up that was with debris that I am pretty confident was the stabilizer dad hardened into a mass at the bottom of the gas tank as it sat for I think as many as eight years in the original owners garage. He was an older guy that just quit riding and waited eight years to decide to sell the bike… he called some shop that came and got the bike, they put a brand new set of Michelin tires on it, changed the oil, put in a battery, and some gas, and it started. Then he put the bike up for sale, I showed up and took it for a short spin around the neighborhood to make sure that it had all the gears and the brakes weren’t warped and it tracked straight and the wheels weren’t bent, and it didn’t have any leaks, and everything felt fine. I had no idea how long the bike was sitting until later when I asked the original owner if he had ever put anything in the fuel.. he said no, I never put anything in that gas tank except for stabilizer.. I asked him if it had been sitting. He said yes, it sat for a while. I don’t know how long it’s sad but his last entry in the maintenance record that he kept in the owners manual was done in 2015. I have a video record of what I went through and what I suspected was the issue, at first, I was blaming it on throttle position sensor. I don’t know why I picked that out of a hat, because I know nothing about throttle position sensor’s. It turned out to not be the issue. But after I solved the Poor starting, and hesitation, and finally the bike quit on me and I had to leave it on the side of the road and ride double on my friends bike to go get my truck and trailer. That’s when I removed the fuel tank found the debris in the gas tank, cleaned it out, and then the inside of the fuel tank in the fuel filters were clean, then I discovered a second issue on the Internet about these machines.. The second separate issue was what made this bike stall and did some hesitations in this video. It was the spark plug caps that snap onto the tops of the spark plugs. They get baked, they develop cracks which caused electrical leaks. Those leaks go to ground instead of to the spark plug at times. I put new spark plug caps on after I read about Spark, plug cap leakage on these machines once they get old due to the hot environment that they work in. New spark plug caps completely cleared that up. here in May 2024, I can make the official announcement/proclamation that this machine now runs better than I hoped. I did not realize how much power these machines do have for a 700 cc. in this particular video made in November 2023, the machine was starting to run poorly as the mass at the bottom of the gas tank was being softened by the slashing of the fuel in the fuel tank, and it was increasingly plugging up the filters until it finally stopped running on the side of the road about a week after I made this video due to a plugged fuel filter.. The machine now here in May 2024, it runs so well, they sold one of my other machines. My Kawasaki Z 400 is now in the hands of another Owner.. that Kawasaki Z 400 was a fun bike, it was perfect for what it was, but it didn’t check as many boxes as this Honda nt700 does.. this nt700 , now that it runs fine, is actually ahead of the motorcycle, I considered to be the most useful motorcycle in the entire history of the universe, that was my Honda pacific coast that I commute it on for 24 years, and never even burned out a lightbulb. I believed that the Pacific coast was the best all-around motorcycle ever made… That was until I got this machine

60 mpg?? where is heavy as this machine is, and since it has shaft drive, that’s pretty remarkable.. it looks like I’m not gonna find these things out till next april.. I am not even halfway through a regular maintenance- filters, fork oil-coolant change, brake, fluid change, steering head, bearings, spark, plugs, valve adjustment, Etc.. i’ve only been able to change the oil/filter/and final drive gear lube so far .. I have only been able to ride the bike a few times, due to weather, with winter approaching here in Western Pennsylvania/USA.. I may have it completely sorted why the time Daytona bike week approaches in March. We will see. Something to look forward to.

@@Jodyrides Indeed! It is what winters are for, working on the bike and dreaming of early spring. How many miles do you currently have on the clock? Once valves are checked at the first 8k interval, they rarely need another, unless the bike is ridden really hard. Why do you suspect the steering head bearings need to be replaced? Does the steering feel insecure? I’ve never had to change mine, and I make Miami home and ride rain or shine, and no longer dream of the aforementioned early springs. Fluids definitely need to be replaced periodically. Enjoy riding your NT, you couldn’t have picked a better bike.

I had trouble with this machine. I think it was contaminated fuel. I have a video showing about a quarter cup of debris that I got out of the gas tank. It actually had me stranded and I had to go get my truck and trailer and retrieve the bike in the dark about two weeks after I bought this machine. The hesitation that this motorcycle started having in this video may be a symptom of bad spark, plug caps.. because of my machines stranding me, even before I siphoned the gas out of the tank and found all of the junk in the gas tank. I did some online research by typing in the words Honda nt700 owner problems. three problems came up that were commonly complained about by owners water pump failures, some people somewhere mentioned that they think it may have been the blend of coolant that Honda had made for motorcycles being the cause. I’m not an expert, but it was something to do with silicate in the Ethlene glycol/coolant that was causing abrasion on the water pump, impeller, shaft, and the seal.. another complaint was the heat at the top of the engine, that the spark plug caps have to endure that heat. Causing the spark plug caps to fail prematurely. Causing hard starting, and occasional misfires. And that is what I was experiencing in this video, Once the machine started getting warm. So the hesitation I was experiencing may not have been a fuel flow fuel starvation result. It may have been bad, spark, plug caps… I have not done my routine complete maintenance on this machine yet as of the end of November here at this moment. It’s the fourth week that I have owned this machine. Riding season is pretty much over here in Western Pennsylvania. so there’s no hurry to get all these things done at the moment. But, I am going to remove the fuel tank and remove the fuel pump and thoroughly clean out the fuel tank. While I have the tank off, I am going to do general maintenance, like adjusting the valves. And any time I have that access to things like spark plugs. I will just throw in a new set of spark plugs, and I will use silicone, grease on the spark, plug caps and wires all the way up to the coils., that’s a pretty harsh place to live for those spark, plug wires and caps.. these machines have an odd size spark plug, which means they have an odd sized spark plug cap. He’s taken NGK-C size plug.. Honda was considering doing a total recall of these Machines back in 2010 and earlier because of the problems caused by the bad spark plug caps that were being baked and hotter climates.. so if anyone is experiencing hesitation and missing and hard starting, it could very well be the spark plug caps ..

additional comment.. this machine showed early in this video, signs of hesitation... i thought it was just old gas still in the tank that needed to be cycled thru with use... i was wrong..... this machine the very next week started hesitating very bqdly.. that got progressively worse over that afternoon.. within 20 minutes of the first hesitation, the bike would not pull over 1/4 throttle.. when rolling along on the level or downhill at 50mph.. i would build up momentum of the approaching uphill, and the bike would slow and bog, and if i opened the throttle past 1/2 way-- the bike would just not pull at all... i finally got stopped at the bottom of a hill and had to ride back home double on my buddys bike to get my truck and trailer, and pick up the bike later that day... since then i siphoned out the gas and i put a video on youtube showing all the hundreds of particles suspended in the gas that i think blocked the fuel pump tiny screen/filter inside the fuel tank...
