I'm one of those oddball guys that prefers a dark external visor and clear inside visor. Reason why is I do most of my riding in the day and if and when it gets dark outside I ride with my external visor up and my clear inside visor down. Sadly, Shuberth doesn't make a clear inside visor for the C5 (yet) so I'll have to carry a pair of clear safety glasses with me just in case.

@Kenneth Wise-thanks for the comment and I agree that is a bit of an unusual visor choice. The Schuberth internal visor doesn't appear to be changeable on the C5, there aren't any instructions as to how to change it and I can't see any easy or obvious means of release. A long time ago a friend of mine had a lid with twin visors, the dark one was external to the clear one which was a 'normal' visor. Very strange indeed.

Good review, David. Thanks 👍🏼 I have a C3. Looking at a new one with a biker pal here in Michigan so we can communicate during rides. A communication system/audio quality review might be cool. Or, just wait for the C6?

@Gr8Layks Thanks for the comment and question. I don't use comms, I did 10 years ago while advanced rider training and they were radio based and clear enough then and I would think that with more digital tech and using mobile phones they will be clearer.

Thank you David for the review, I can see you have a Red Tracer as well 😎 How does this helmet performs when you out on the Tracer ? ( Usual Tracer Buffeting issue )

@Alin With the R6 Thanjks for the comment. I have changed the screen on my Tracer 9 for a Puig racing screen pyramid-plastics.co.uk/collections/yamaha/products/puig-racing-screen-clear-yamaha-tracer-9-2021 due to the buffeting. I'm 5'10" / 177 cm tall and on either the high or low settings my head was getting buffeted badly at anyting over 55 mph and my visor was being lifted at 60, but this was on an AGV Compact helmet, not the C5. With the Puig screen the wind is on my upper chest and shoulders as well as my head and there is no buffeting. I am used to riding naked bikes so I don't mind a bit of wind. In a couple of weeks there will be a Tracer 9 vs Himalayan mini review where I cover the screen.

@@TheRantyRider thank you David, I have a Red Tracer 9gt as well and tried several screens now , the MRA Vario touring seams to do the trick for me and I’m same height as you but there is still a bit there, I am thinking on the C5 helmet and wanted to know how well it performs along with the tracer riders. Visor fogging ? Rain riding ? Noise ? Any thoughts will be appreciated

@Alin With the R6 My C5 has the Pinlock visor insert which seems to work, especially when used with the visor vent. The visor makes a good rain seal, I have had to put up with leaking visor seals for years but this one does the trick. As it has a smaller profile there is probably less wind noise, but I wear ear plugs which negates pretty much everything.

Thanks for the review. Just bought one, my first ever bike helmet (total newb in the process of getting my bike licence), and I feel slight pressure on my Adams apple from the chin strap, kinda even if I do not tighten it a lot, is this normal or should I look for another helmet? Another thing, I feel it is quite hard to put the sun visor down on my helmet, not smooth at all, on all YT videos it seems to be real easy to operate the slider, can that be DIY fixed? I also figured out why I have the feeling it could be too big for my head (but it probably is not, it kinda feels a bit to comfy ... again, I a total newb), they only have two shell sizes, which I think is quite lame for a helmet in this price range ... I am size 61cm which is the smallest size of the bigger shell, and you have to buy liner tampons separately if you want a perfect fit ... I think they should have included them in the box. Cheers

@lorencing - It sounds like you have the wrong size or shape of helmet. A helmet should not move around on your head and feel very slightly too tight when new, not uncomfortably so but just a bit overly snug. The chin strap shouldn't be anywhere near your adam's apple but snug under your chin, even when you look down you shouldn't feel anything. The visor slider is easy to operate even after a couple of years. Did you buy the helmet in a shop or online? A shop, especially a large one, will have a variety of makes, models and sizes to try and it is worth spending an hour to find a perfect fit for you. I never base a helmet on the quoted size, I have been everywhere from a medium to an extra-large over the years and my head certainly hasn't changed size. Manufacturers also have slightly different shapes of head that they base their helmet design on, mine is an 'Arai / AGV / Caberg' shape - I find some other makes feel like there is a gap between the back of my head and the liner or overly tight across the forehead. With regard to the slider, if anything use a very small drop of a silicone lubricant in the mechanism, if you know someone with an Arai they will have been supplied a small bottle of lubricant for the visor and this is ideal. If you have any further questions please ask.

I am afraid you are wrong about not being able to change the internal visor on the C5. It’s actually quite straightforward. CP

@Motolegends Yes, I was wrong. When I made the film I was working from the Schuberth manual that came with the helmet and it doesn't show how to remove the visor - however the online one does.

Every time I see a title with ....Honest Review... I tend NOT to watch it... is that person trying to say that other reviews are DISHONEST ? Simply saying,,,an owners review gets my attention...so nope I didn't watch your review. Ride safe

@ Ride With Old Grizz Thanks for the comment, but perhaps you should have watched the review. I use the term 'honest' as I am not paid, and would not accept payment, for a review. I have paid list price (any discounts I have received would have been available to anyone else) for any item I comment on. I have also used items for at least 6 months or in the case of bikes 12 months and 10 000 miles before I do a full review, so these are very much owners reviews. I hope that you find other reviews more to your taste, if you want my view on the helmet it's still here.

I think what this gentleman is trying to convey is that his review is without bias. A review from a journalist will never seek to offend an advertiser. A review from a retailer will also often be biased. Most people, I believe, will understand what is meant by honest review. CP
