Great interview with Nadia Whittome. It was refreshing and inspiring to hear an MP answering questions honestly and clearly stating their beliefs, even as they differ from the party position. I wish you'd pushed further on the question of spoiled ballots, as I don't think she adequately addressed the issue: telling people to support the least unappealing party is effectively dis-empowering (the " fine, if I have to" of voting), whereas spoiling a ballot is an affirmative action (a "none of you are worth voting for" statement). Furthermore, if a constituent is looking for a candidate to EARN their vote, saying "it only takes five minutes" is the sort of response that practically guarantees that person won't vote. Unfortunately, it was the only time she spoke like a media-trained politician - ie. answering the question she wanted to, not the one actually asked.

It’s not great as a trans person to be part of one of the several groups in this country that the Tories are hoping will all quietly die on a waiting list as some sort of grim public spectacle to facilitate their political stunts, but between the mortality rate of the GIC waiting list and the absolutely unconscionable waits asylum seekers are facing to get their claims processed, at least we’re in good company.

Good on Nadia - the kind of person now NOT getting selected under Starmer. All Labour M.P.s ought to only take the average wage, like she does. And have courage and principles over Gaza. She's one of the few Labour candidates left who I'd vote for.

"I tried to trim my beard and I accidentally shaved the whole thing off." I'm with you Nish. This is usually how I end up clean shaven. _(For the people wondering how you can accidentally shave a whole beard off, you trim one side, find that it's uneven, try to even it out, mess that up, try to even out the mistake, mess that up...at some point it's gone too far and you just have to take the whole thing off)_

I find the accidental beard wipe is super easy for people with unkempt-seeming curly hair. My beard hair is a mess even when oiled and combed, and the times I've done the accidental shave are - as you say - from trying to even it out and misjudging.

The problem Nadia faces is that the current leadership is determined to continue conservative fiscal policy which will just lead to more decline. Rowing back on Green policies and failure to even discuss taxing wealth. Crystal! absolutely everyone’s hero! Clever funny talented and a dream!

The answer to the viewer question was deeply frustrating. Spoiling your ballot isn't voter apathy. It's engagement whilst being disenfranchised. Perhaps more people would feel more represented if their representatives actually engaged with their ideas, rather than answer the version of questions which best suits their interests.

I might have to go audio only for February, that calendar is horrifying! My family whatsapp group was briefly called "Crumpet Strumpets" because we were trying to think of words rhyming with crumpet while eating crumpets. Despite it being the most British thing we've ever done, my mum didn't like it so we had to change it back!

I deliberately let my beard grow out on the approach to Xmas so I can confuse young kids when I'm down at the shops. It's usually good for a few confused looks who wonder why Santa's wearing a Star Wars t-shirt and cargo shorts. "They don't make TV like that any more" but they did come close with Community's 'gas leak' year. The 4th season saw the initial showrunner step away from the show. The new showrunner made some changes to the characters, which all got undone when the previous showrunner returned. They explained away the odd behaviour in the show as the school having an undetected gas leak for that time.

I don't agree with your villain of the week. Not because I have a better one or because I know anything about her - she's a Tory, I assume she's for their terrible policies - but because the name of her WhattsApp group is clearly satirical. It's the same reason your parent company is called "Crooked Media".

funny how Nadia did not at all mention October 7th nor even mentioning Hamas, very disingenuous, it also seems Coco is lying in being a sort of swing when she does not challenge on not mentioning hostages or Hamas, disappointing as well

The guy that got thrown out for mentioning his dead family, not sure his wish is a cesfire, he wants to punish the people who killed his family , much like people on the other side wants him to suffer. Also neither side wants to be forced into a peace talk stalemate. That is because if neither side can claim a win, all lot of people feel that all the deaths have been in wain. Also, this is Not new conflict. They have been going at it for decades. Under partially different leadership bu still

That isn't how these negotiations have been playing out at all. Hamas accepted the terms of a proposed ceasefire today, Netanyahu said no way, rejected every one of their requests. In this case it's not losing face, Netanyahu is done as soon as the war stops (politically he's unpopular due to his handling of the war if not for the war he'd be in court on corruption charges) so it's in his interests to extend/expand the war.

The guy mentioning his dead family is just a Palestinian. He's not a member of Hamas. Just as the families pleading to have their relatives returned to them, are not part of the Israeli government, they're just Israelis. It's not hard to for me to take their pleas at face value, it's their governments whom are actually the bad actors in this situation. There's no defense for what Hamas has done, so of course they want to stop the retaliation as soon as possible because they'd achieved their goal the moment their attack was successful. The problem is the Israeli government's response would appear to be at the least, ethnic cleansing, which still won't result in the security they say they're trying to provide as a response to the October 7th attacks. Hamas absolutely wants a ceasefire, because for them that is a victory. They don't care about the civilian death toll in Gaza, it only furthers to push their agenda. Whereas Netanyahu is completely in opposition for political reasons, and also to deny Hamas any semblance of comfort. It's politically complicated, but not morally, because morally this all just sucks.
