destroyed by the weather you say? Ha-ha-ha-ha! That is the funniest thing I've ever heard! Ha-ha-ha!......... Oh! Apart from Sir Walter Raleigh's joke about the bear with the big paws!! HA-HA-HA! i love that line
The funniest thing is the fact that you still believe it was you by yourselves who defeated us and not the weather conditions. If you want a funny joke, talk about some of the numerous REAL defeats your suffered against Spain, for example, the Counter Armada episode or, maybe, you could talk about how Blas de Lezo crushed you several times in the Spanish Caribbean, or the Jenkins’ Ear war... and so on. Oops I forgot, your History books omit all these embarrassing parts of your History, so it might be difficult for you to find this information. You were just a second-rate kingdom full of pirates who had to eat our leftovers. It’s high time for you to learn about your real History. 😂 Long live to Spain. 🇪🇸 ☝🏻

@@josecabello5821 seeming we was the underdog in that war we did very well. Plus what about what happened to the empire after that. The Spanish simply went away unable to keep their power whilst the British empire kept gaining territory till 1920. The British Royal Navy was the greatest navy in the world and easily beat Spain and France on the seas for many years. Or do we need Nelson to come back and repeat trafalgar and crush the Spanish and french fleets. Rule Britannia 🇬🇧

But it is the truth:.hahaha.and the following year 1589 the English armada was defeated by a woman at la coruña. Nelson defeated in tenerife. Vernon at Cartagena of indias...the biggest English invasion to rule the Spanish caribe and defeat by Blas de lezo. Etc.etc. The kingdom of Spain on wich the sun never set and the first empire sailing around the world led by El Cano and Magallanes.

The Spanish Navy (Spanish: Armada Española) is the maritime branch of the Spanish Armed Forces and one of the oldest active naval forces in the world. The Spanish navy was responsible for a number of major historic achievements in navigation, the most famous being the voyages of Christopher Columbus and the first global circumnavigation by Magellan and Elcano.

Portugal was not conquered by Spain, the Portuguese king died without children (he was a Cardinal), and Filipe II of Spain was the only living relative, but before he became king of Portugal, he had to sign a treaty, where he promised to respect Portuguese independence, choose Portuguese nobles to govern the country, etc.. It was exactly as happens today with Queen Elizabeth II is Queen of the United Kingdom and Canada

For several centuries it played a crucial logistical role in the Spanish Empire and defended a vast trade network across the Atlantic Ocean between the Americas and Europe and across the Pacific Ocean between Asia and the Americas. The Spanish Navy was the most powerful maritime force in the world in the 16th and early 17th centuries.

frisianmouve Those "anglo-dutch wars" are known as the glorious revolution here or the bloodless revolution (because no shots where fired). William was asked by parliament to become king as James the second was hated, and was likely to re-establish a catholic monarchy. Also apon becoming joint king with his wife Mary (the legitimate heir, James's daughter) wrote the English bill of rights giving more power to the people and parliament. So very well :), which i some how think was not the answer you where hoping for :P.

@Tareltonlives

They owned part of the Netherlands (gained from the union of Germany and Spain in the 1510s, in turn gained from the fall of the Burgundian empire in the 15th century) : indeed, this was the part of the Netherlands that became the Dutch Republic, rebelling against Spain. In fact, this rebellion was what caused this conflict. The Dutch cities were business partners with England, and England supported the Dutch revolt. This was a period where most of Europe teamed up against Spain. King Phillip II of Spain imposed high taxes for continued war against France over Italy, and outlawed Protestant churches. The Dutch were furious and the English, who were protestant and had a strong trade connection with the Dutch, supported the rebels with weapons and troops. Phillip's plan was to force England to terms by occupying London, perhaps replacing Elizabeth with a Catholic of his choice. Furthermore, the English were pirates, preying on the Atlantic trade, and persecuted Catholics in England. That still makes the trip from the NEtherlands to Spain ridiculously long especially with France in the Way. I suspect they shipped them to Italy and marched up through Germany or directly shipped them in the channel. The Armada's first step wasn't England itself, but the Netherlands to pick up the army. The English scattered them and by the time they reformed the current had taken them past their ports.
