This is the best video on the operation of this furnace that I've found. This video answered all of my questions. Thanks! Excellent! :)

I had one and burned coal wth it. I took the shaker grate out and installed a flat barrel stove grate. I would then use a hand saw sideways to slide in the gap just above the grate and slide it in and out moving from ine side if the grate tonthe other. It worked way better then shaking those stock oem grates. Best thing i ever did. I also put secondary air tubes along the sides. That really helped burn off those volatile gases. Picked mine up in closeout at TSC fr $500. Doubt they do that anymore though. Seems like they only order them online now. Coal went up to $700 a ton here so im just burning wood now. I sure miss the coal.

It was at the time,1257, that was the pipe and all to do the job, they are around 1800 now just for the furnace.

Hi. Thanks for great video. Noticed that you are keeping door vent in an open position, which means that air is supplied over the top of coal bed. My understanding is that air in a coal fire should be fed strictly from bottom. Did you try closing door vent to see if you get longer burn times. Thanks

Yes" and the main door damper on these stoves, when burning wood or coal, close off as the stove heats up to slow the burn, but you can turn it to low settings, and it will not open back as it cools, that's why I put the flue damper in.

My Woodchuck manual says to leave the ash pan out, restricts air flow under the grates.

you remind me of when I was younger- a couple of guys hangin' out , experimenting with the new toy, the old lady wondering in and out, to see if your burnt up and dead yet, just enjoying life, easy paced.. good people..... kind of like paul harvey and the rest of the story...lol..-
