There’s a LOT of foreshadowing in most of Edgar Wright’s films. He foreshadows Tim Messenger’s death by having Skinner eyeing him while holding the bat at the “Splat the Rat” stand at the fair. What was Tim Messenger doing? Revealing the true value of Leslie Tiller’s land, information that Skinner wanted kept secret (Tim is a rat)…and what happened to Tim? *splat*

The sound design of this scene is hugely underrated. From the subtle ‘whoosh’ noise when she lifts her head up, the thunder clap accentuating the joke, and event the way the creepy background music is perfectly timed so that it ends on a weird major chord.
@colechapman6976
2 жыл бұрын
I caught that whoosh sound too. It's almost like the movie is saying there is a killer hiding in every corner of the film. I like the effect and it also makes an appearance when Angel is informed he is being transferred to Stratford. Maybe it's foreshadowing the killer's distinctive whooshing noise. The more I re-watch the movie the more little details like that I find, to quote the old lady, wonderful!

The more I see this movie, the more I understand thus is not just a great comedy, this is a an absolute masterpiece in the genre, the type that deserves an Oscar nomination for best script. The problem, why Edgar Wright films will never win an Oscar for best script is right in your comment. You have to watch it multiple times and pay very close attention to every little detail. I really love how Edgar Wright writes the jokes for these movies. There's a few layers to the jokes, like this simple crossword puzzle banter should be joke enough for a comedy but the fascism statement is good foreshadowing with how the old folks run the town and this joke later becomes a callback in a different setting (i.e. while they're fighting for real).

The heavens have opened: reference to the rain and that his surname name is Angel. They also make a great reference to angel numbers in this film with Nicholas Angel's number "777" on his police uniform. This number refers to an angel appearing. It was very clever when Skinner said "oh 777" in other words he is talking from the perspective of the devil, this movie is full of messages.
