A key skill in navigation is understanding the concept of the geographic location of a star. To do this, you have to take into account the location (declination and sidereal hour angle of the star) in the celestial sphere. Then you have to relate this to the Prime Meridian in Greenwich. Then you have to take into account the rotation of the earth to find the GP as it moves second by second with the rotation of the earth.
In this episode we go through the process of understanding this and finding the GP of a star.
