I had a similar type experience but in reverse... around the age of 33 I had a mental break down and went into a state of pure panic for a few years. Prior to this I had a sense that I was a character following the course of fate, everything was preordained, and that I had a destiny. Then that all went away. I continue to make art, but in a way it feels like an aftermath. It's simply the only thing that I can do at this point.

Maybe what feels like the aftermath is a precursor to something even better. Hold out hope. 💜

Last weekend, my lady and I went to the MFA in Houston and happened upon Mr. Shaw's Ballads of East and West. I'm not an aficionado, but I was deeply moved by all of Mr. Shaw's works of art on display. Thank you for uploading this interview and for Mr. Shaw's candor about his personal experiences and perspectives!! 👏🏽👏🏽

The kind of painter and genius people will talk about long after he’s dead, let’s appreciate him now, what a legend
