Attieke is made from Cassava and is Brazilian; the Portuguese (who introduced Cassava to West Africa) are responsible for bringing this with them. Cassava is not native to Africa (neither is Maize/Corn) I am African; I speak from a position of researching the roots of now-common African foods to understand Colonial/pre-Colonial trade influences. In the northeast of Brazil it is called macaxeira; in the south, aipim or mandioca. The most popular recipe in Brazil using cassava flour closest to Attieke is Farofa.
