I love the yogurt I had in Greece. It was the best yogurt I have ever tasted anywhere. The yogurt sold as "Greek yogurt" in the US is nothing like it. The closest I've had to the yogurt in Greece is full fat Fage. Chobani is nowhere near it

Yogurt is definitely not Greek, it is Turkish. In the past, Turks in Central Asia would ferment milk to make yogurt so that it would stay together while they were transporting it, so that their nutrients would stay together during the journey. In those days, yogurt was only used for immunity, but after that it started to be used for other things as well. Yogurt is one of the most valuable and beautiful dishes of Turkish cuisine. Also, "Yogurt" is a Turkish word, meaning "fermented/kneaded" in English. Unfortunately, after the Turks founded the Ottoman Empire, many countries stole our food🇹🇷

For some reason my previous comment was deleted so adding it again. Lactobacillus Bulgaricus. That settles any disputes regarding authenticity. Greek yogurt is authentic as much as Irish pasta and Italian whiskey are!

the real original yougurt is actually Bulgarian. thats because the bacteria grows and multiples only here. Asians are trying to mimic that bacteria. here we call it Sour milk (кисело мляко). not yougurt lol

@@DanishnSonic there's so such thing as greek/turk separation at times when yogurt was invented. All kinds of yogurts are made with "cutten" milk which means accidentally cultured milk. Greek yogurt generally making out of fat free milk and strained after yogurt is done so its more creamy and have more protein, less fat thanks to fat free milk and straining process. Turkish yogurt making out of whole milk and don't strained.
