Hi, friends! Thanks so much for watching the first episode of this new season. We've been working hard these past few months to create some really cool episodes and explore some interesting ideas, exciting stuff is coming for the rest of the series. The support and engagement you've shown on the previous series is massively appreciated, and hope that this new one delivers more of the content you enjoy. I'm keen to hear what you think, and what you'd like to see more episodes on, so please let your thoughts be heard either here or hit me up on Twitter. But once again a big thank you from the Loadout team of myself, the massive talent behind the camera of Chris Morris and Adam Mason, as well of course your friend and mine Jonathan Ferguson and the fine folks at the Royal Armouries. It's quite interesting that in real life, those ranges and battles presented, even in BF, won't be as common for "snipers" or even tanks to be honest, the closest thing to a sniper in that situation would be a "marksman" with a semi-auto, and the closest thing to a tank would be a IFV, but that definitely won't be as fun.

My problem with snipers in games. They make 300 meters seem far... It really isn't I can shoot a baseball size target at 300 meters standing. With a mosin nagant I can hit a man size target at 900 meters. With very little elevation hold overs. 1000 meters its pushing the limits of most ww2 rifles. But games act like a .338 lapua rifle will struggle at 500 meters. I have a .338 lapua and hit a 24x24 inch plate at 1600 meters with only a 3 mil hold over. I'm pretty sure I could hit 2000 meters if I could find a range that far.

@dark2023-1lovesoni

@@stevenbobbybills yeah, the shotgun thing is silly AF. A good choke and the right ammo can easily still be an effective pattern at 100 meters/yards. Though PCC/SMG type weapons do generally have significantly more drop than many rifles due to the large/heavy bullets moving relatively slowly. It's not so bad with zippy rounds like .357 sig or 7.62tok, but with .45 or even 9mm it can be rather extreme. Those last 2 only drop a few inches at 50 yards. But the 9mm falls at least 8" low at 100meter/yards, usually closer to 12", or a foot of drop. The .45acp has around 15" of drop at 100 meters/yards.
@BT-ex7ko
Жыл бұрын
@@Robert53area I forget when and where it was published-it might have even been during the conflict so I'm not sure if I could find it-but there was a paper on engagements in the War on Terror and the average engagement at that time was about 600 meters. The only game I've seen get this right is the ARMA series, but then again it was developed during that time as well with that in mind. There also is an issue with asset scaling and distance in games in a development standpoint. Same games really do measure the distance completely wrong, or scale items larger or smaller to give the impression of further distance. I recall even commenting on that on a few titles, warthunder to name a specific one that immediately comes to mind for how egregious it was: Air only maps intentionally scale the landscape smaller to make it feel as if you're much higher than you actually are. Full size houses are smaller than a F2A Buffalo, which is ridiculous.

One of my favourite gaming memories was playing BF1943 (the online-only cut down version you could only get digitally on consoles) with my little brother when I came home from uni for Christmas, we set our PS3s up in the same room so we could play online together. He was on the deck of a carrier waiting for a plane to spawn while I'd been dogfighting an enemy player, we both bailed and ended up swimming a long way to shore really close together. It was well beyond the draw distance so my bro could see the 3D marker but not the enemy and I could see the trails of his missed shots, so I told him where to aim and after using almost all his ammo, he finally managed to land a headshot on the guy. So much fun... It did admittedly take us both out of PTO'ing for a couple of minutes though.

For me the first FPS to really capture sniping was MAG on PlayStation. Prior to that games like COD4 took place on relatively close quarter battlefields where the semi-auto nature of the Dragunov or M21 made them the top choice. MAG was the first game to have player counts up in 60+ all the way out to 256 on a map, and had maps big enough to accommodate such numbers. It got slept on because such large maps meant lower graphics and such stages were challenging to populate, but they were the first multiplayer maps I played on at least that had the range of an Intervention or .338 Lapua become a real consideration.

Definitely true. But unless the gun is braced on a bench, I think that difference would be mostly absorbed into the shooter's shoulder. That's not how it works. In any semi auto rifle the bullet is already long gone from the barrel before any operating systems, gas impingement or piston, unlocks the bolt. I don't see these games ranging with reticles, or requiring shooters to use realistic technique to get a range. -There's never any mirage. For those of you who never come out of Mom's basement: there's almost always mirage. Mirage can stop you from even seeing a target if it's bad enough. -The crosshairs/dot are ALWAYS moving, no matter how you set up, at least a little. It moves when you breathe, generally in a canted ellipse. You learn to settle the crosshairs with you breathe, and break the shot where you want. In the games they are rock solid. Must make you boys feel like studs. -A powerful rifle doesn't move like that in recoil. If your scope is dialed up at all, you'll lose the target completely in recoil. If your position is solid you'll come back in. -Out in the world you are dealing with winds, changing force and direction constantly. You have to wait for it to settle down or return to a known value. You may have to hold off to compensate if the wind won't cooperate. Silly, kid's games.

I really like the anti material rifle the added in the new battlefield, the ntw50. For me, it's the first time in a casual fps that it feels like that type of weapon was properly implemented.

Of course, they make the role more entertaining then it would be in real life. Such changes are needed because who wants to play a game where it's waiting 3 days in one spot for one shot? Not just that but having to do math very quickly and be comfortable doing it quickly in your head. They do add bullet drops etc but thats very niche of a game.

Real bolt action rifles do have a slight edge on power, as the more complex action of a gas-op rifle does rob a bit of energy when firing.

It's hard to beleive that the concept of the modern sniper is only about 100 years old. However it wasn't being taught as a crucial part of military teaching until Vietnam for the U.S. Terrible scopes made sniping hard to maintain and with most conflicts taking place at less than 300 yards, magnified optics weren't needed.

Mostly because firearms weren't all that accurate until around 1900ish. For a long time, the majority of firearms were smoothbore. You couldn't hit anything except as part of a unit firing in volleys. Proper rifles with threaded barrels were rare and not used in war until around the American Revolution. From there, a lot of focus was on reducing reload times (by the American Civil War, reloading was down to around 20~30 seconds among disciplined soldiers vs. ~60 seconds during the Revolution). This further developed into clips and magazines.

All I'm going to say about the bolt action rifle semi-auto rifle is this. Semi-auto weapon use a little bit of the gas from the cartridge to push the action of the rifle open to eject the spent casing which then allows to feed the next round where is a bolt-action rifle 100% of that gas out the end of the barrel so you're going to have a little bit more push on that bullet then you have with a semi-auto rifle.

I mean in real life you would adjust your sight to the distance you are shooting at. If you dial it in correctly you would also just aim directly at your target IRL. Arma has this, you can set the zeroing of whatever sights you are using.
@jimsagubigula7337
Жыл бұрын
@@ruukinen Yeah, zeroing doesn't really work like that.
@ruukinen
Жыл бұрын
@@jimsagubigula7337 What? Yes it does. You change the point your "zero" the middle of your crosshair in case of a scope points at. I don't think I've ever seen a decent quality scope without a way to change the distance you are aiming at. It might not give you enough fine tuning to be able to aim exactly in the middle at longer ranges but you'd be dumb to not adjust it to be as close to it as possible.
@jimsagubigula7337
Жыл бұрын
@@ruukinen Hypothetically speaking, you are correct. Practically though, it's a different. Zeroing a scope in real life isn't just "press this button" as it's in video games, it's a complex process. That's why you have your scope zeroed to a predetermined distance (usually 100 meters) and you make the calculations from there. You don't change the zero.

Let me tell you what game devs need to do. Semi-auto ones will have less accuracy, due to having more moving parts. The bolt action ones, will have better accuracy. There, fixed. And it's realistic, too. Waow.
@Paratus1179
Жыл бұрын
Yeah but the accuracy doesn’t really come into play with the sniping distances in most video games. You can take a semi auto rifle like a Daniel defense DDM5 with match grade ammo and shoot 1 MOA all day long. It’s not gonna be sub MOA like a nice precision rifle but it’s gonna be close enough at most distances especially if you aim center mass.

Late 1800 and the beginning of 1900 in the Anglo Boere war, the boere was shooting successfully at 1200 meters, almost all of them were snipers. Friend of mine told me that his forefathers were so accurate that they were shooting the buttons on the British forces.

I go coyote hunting with a .204 AR. Closest I'll ever get to sniping in real life. Until you try it, you have no idea how difficult it is to hit a fast moving target moving in all directions, while looking through a scope. People also tend to not realize how hard it is to keep your reticle stable the more you zoom in.

I don't think the idea is to make it realistic, it's for gameplay balance.

Scope glint in itself is fairly unrealistic. The entire purpose of a scope is to capture as much light as possible. A glint is a reflection the opposite of it capturing the light. So yeah it's for gameplay purposes not realism.
