Wide receiver DeVonta Smith from the University of Alabama was announced as the 86th winner of the Heisman Memorial Trophy during ESPN’s 2020 Heisman Trophy Ceremony Presented by Nissan on Tuesday (Jan. 5) originating from Bristol, Ct.
He is the fourth wide receiver to win the Heisman and the first since Michigan’s Desmond Howard in 1991. The only other wide receiver winners were Notre Dame’s Tim Brown (1987) and Nebraska’s Johnny Rodgers (1972). The last player to win the Heisman while playing some receiver (though it wasn’t his primary position) was Michigan cornerback Charles Woodson (1997).
