Special shout-out to Kadabra being the best rental Pokemon in Stadium and especially Stadium 2. Stadium tried to balance Pokemon by giving lower evolutions more stat experience and better moves, but since Kadabra was NFE with stats that rivaled most fully evolved Pokemon it got the best of both worlds.
@Flaming_Rok
10 ай бұрын
"The Best" is debatable (especially in Stadium 2) but it is top tier. Stadium 1 you want the Legendary Birds, Jynx, Electrode, The Ghosts, and well of course Kadabra, swapping between them depending on the situation, and so sometimes it faces competition from Jynx. In Stadium 2 Kadabra is the best special attacker, there's no denying that. That doesn't make it the best overall rental: Hitmonlee is the physical counterpart, Snorlax still puts in work, and Dewgong has RestTalk. Mr. Mime while being overall weaker has a Baton Pass set (which also gives Girafarig a niche), Magneton hit real hard and has paralysis, the list can go on, but it might start to end up turning into mindless meandering. Basically, there's no rental that's "the best".
@iss2075

@NotAnElk
10 ай бұрын
@@hoangnguyen0721 Usage is often correlated with brokenness but not actually as connected as you might think. A good example would be gen 8 Seismitoad. In the early days of gen 8 OU, Seismitoad was the 4th most used Pokemon in the tier, because it was one of the few water immune Pokemon around, meaning it didn't get ripped apart by Dracovish and had a good variety of moves to set it apart from the other immune Pokemon at the time (most notably toxic and stealth rock). It actually ended up with significantly more usage than Dracovish itself, since basically every team needed something to deal with Vish, but not every team was actually running Vish. Same deal with Gen 8 Ubers Yveltal, it had 97% usage because it was the only real counter to Calyrex-Shadow, so every team needed it, but not every team was running Caly-S (though granted, Caly-S did still have like 70% usage). Additionally, high usage is generally more correlated with high splashability. Pokemon like Landorus-T and Dragapult are most likely going to be good on any team you put them on, whereas stuff like Blissey's usually not gonna be a great team member on a Hyper Offense team, and Barraskewda's only going to be a threatening sweeper on a rain team. If 100% of team styles benefit from having a Pokemon on them, it'll get used on a lot more teams than something that can rip the tier apart but only on 1 or 2 specific styles.

Interesting Kabadra fact: Though it's never been officially confirmed by TPC or Creatures Inc., Kadabra's Japanese name is "Yungerer", which sounds very similar to the name of famous psychic performer Uri Geller (who was famous for claiming to be able to bend spoons during his performances). In fact, Geller sued The Pokemon Company for the unauthorized usage of his likeness, and in a similar fashion as Porygon never appearing in the anime after its seizure-inducing episode, Kadabra was not printed in packs of Pokemon cards since the lawsuit in 1999, only re-entering the TCG scene back in February of this year.

What I love about Pokemon is that you can make an argument that every single one is cooking somewhere Theres obviously cases like Caterpie or Luvdisk, but I wouldnt be surprised if theyve done something in one of the most niche of metagames.

Kadabra is actually the single greatest pokemon of all time. One of the few in the anime to defeat ash's pikachu handily in direct battle and a reliable team staple even to players that didnt have another console or person to trade with for alakazam. Then, you have the whole legal thing with that magician and they couldnt put him on pokemon cards for a long time. Few pokemon have such legacy as kadabra.

It feels weird that Kadabra was considered too good for Gen 3 UU. I mean with how frail it is, I feel like some special wall counterplay would keep it from being unreasonable. Sure Focus Sash would help, but wth the prevalence of Spikes I don't think it'd be too unreasonable. I hope it wasn't just players not wanting UU to change that much after the NFE ban got lifted

Besides Jinx and Mr. Mime, the Abra line is the most ridiculous looking line in Gen one. What even is that supposed to be?
