A good clean job means you take pride in your work. That's something a lot of folks have forgotten or never been taught. How sad 😢. Great job 👍 enjoy the reloading videos. Keeping on loading!

That's why I use a RCBS sizer lubricator now. But before I got that, this worked to make very nice looking ammo that worked great for years.

I stopped using the lee fcd and bought the regular taper crimp die. If you pull one of your cast loads you will find that the factory crimp die has post sized your 9mm down to around .355 which has undersized your round and destroyed your case neck tension. I use the fcd for jacketed rounds but for cast that I have sized to be 2 thou over groove diameter its borderline dangerous. If your experiencing leading ditch the fcd.

Interesting but... there is no way I am sitting there with a dampened rag wiping off every single bullet... life is too short. I use Johnson's Floor Wax Paste with three drops of Lee's Liquid Alox for tumble lube and I don't experience "sticky" residue issues. I put about 200 lead cast bullets in a plastic container, add about half a teaspoon of Johnsons, three drops of Lee's Alox, put the lid on and shake for about 2 minutes, dump them out on a piece of wax paper to dry over night... done. (If the bullets come out too wet cut back on the Johnsons until they come out with just a fine film of lube) I have been lubing my bullets like this for four years and I have no sticky residue issues in my dies, storage boxes, or firearms.

bippie23456 Agree. My gun and dies dont get alox build up. But if they did, I would rather clean those every so often instead of every single bullet.

Nice results , can I ask how your primers are fed in ? I have the lee single stage at the moment my one has a tray feed.

I’ve done the same thing until I’ve tried Rooster jacket bullet film. It dries hard and doesn’t melt

Nice video. Have you ever considered making a system that ONLY coats the side of the bullets in the first place? I'm sure you could design something so you could lay the bullets on their side and roll them through the lube. Then stand them up on the (dry) base (maybe on regular paper or another clean surface, since the base is dry). Then you wouldn't need to remove anything or use any mineral spirits, or take time to wipe them. And you would use less lube too. It would be quicker and easier and you would use less materials to not put something on and then have to take it off again.

True. This is how I used to do it, bc I didnt like the tumble lubed look. Now I currently use an RCBS sizer lubricator for all projectiles including tumble Lube projectiles and it works just fine was no cleanup involved.

Yes but it's not pipe. Their adaptors made of PVC for PVC pipe. You don't have to make anything. Home Depot and Lowe's has them, for like 3 or 4 bucks each. I got them at lowes. the one you need to buy is the one that one side is exctally 3 inch ID. the turrets will sit perfectly on these.

I cast the same 9mm mold as you. Your bullets look beautiful. I'm one that doesn't mind the 'look' of Alox on the visible part of the bullet. Maybe some day I'll change my mind and go thru the extra steps. I also think that the Alox that you are wiping off might slightly reduce the lubing affect. I'm thinking that some of the smoke produced when shooting will end up on the walls of my gun barrel, leaving a bit more lubrication for the next shot.

+KC It does. But it's overkill. More then needed. I've shot thousands of these. And the steel competition shoots your shooting 300 plus rds in 1 ousting, and no leading at all in any of my guns. I do them in a sizer lubricatior now to save the time. But before I had the money to get that going this is what I did for years. It's personal preference. The LLA is really good stuff either way. Just a little smokey. Be safe, Happy casting, and Shoot straight!

Doesn’t cleaning off the lube defeat the purpose and cause leading in the barrel.
@flier556

No bc I only clean the part that disent touch the barrel. All the drive bands in the case are lubed.

I just watched your video on casting 45 acp bullets and I was wondering how you do your lubing, and found this older video that answered my questions :) thanks. I'm wondering if it would just be faster to "paint" on the alox to the bullet grooves instead of tumbling and then wiping off the excess? I'm also wondering if a RCBS lubrisizer would be any faster. Still not sure if I want to get into casting or not. Might take too much time versus just buying Berrys plated bullets for 12.5 cents per bullet (45 230 gr RN)

It looks like your loading those bullets long. Do you have any trouble with them chambering in any guns? When I load those same bullets, I usually have the case flush with the last drive band.

+M Hatter No sir. No problems what so ever. I have 7 9mms. 5 handguns, and 2 carbines. I load them at 1.113. I have fired well over 10000 of them easily. I keep 5000 loaded on hand at any given time, and between 6 and 9 thousand on hand waiting to be loaded. I use it pretty much exclusively for the last 4 to 5 years in all my 9s. It just works. Good luck with yours. Happy casting, loading, and most importantly, SHOOTING. Be safe.

Do you have a springfield xd 9mm or a cz75? I originally loaded them at about that oal and when I chambered the round (in the cz or springfield) the slide would not close all the way, and when I pulled the slide back (with a ton of force) the brass (and powder) came flying out but the bullet stayed stuck in the barrel chamber. I can't tell you the oal I use off the top of my head(if I had to guess Id say the oal is 1.06), but like I said I load them so the last driving band is flush or just a hair past the end of the brass case. I put 3.5gr of titegroup behind them, and they always shoot great, and very accurate, in all my guns. I chronographed them at about 1020fps, so they are a good full power load. I have only been loading these for about 8 months, but I have been very pleased. What a money save! especially when you can find scrap lead locally for about 25 cents a pound! I think I'm loading 9mm for 5 cents a round (and 45acp for 6 cents)!

M Hatter I was just about to ask him what oal he was loading them at. This is my first time reloading this type of bullet. The reloading manual says 1.090 oal. That seats all of the bands down in the case as you described. It didnt seem right to me thats why im here doing research. Im using 4.5 gn of Unique. Seating the bullet that far is most likely (good or bad) compressing the powder.

question if you wipe off the lube after you load them ,how does it keep the dies from build up
@flier556

I only wipe the tips and bases before loading. The tip cleaning keeps the dies free of lube sns the bases keep it outta the powder. After loading I wipe anything else exposed. The line in the grooves in the case remains.
