I almost killed my pearls by spraying them with isopropyl. They were in every nook and cranny so I took extreme precautions. I was gonna let it only sit for a few minutes but then I forgot overnight. I flushed it with fresh water but over the next week most of the pearls died :( I picked out every dead pearl and it’s slowly recovering. Good news though, all the mealys are dead 😂🎉

i send my mom your videos often because she loves plants too. recently, all 17 of her plants got badly infested (yes, all of them) and we had to get rid of most of them yesterday because they were too far gone. it was very painful. we have a couple stems drying as of now so we can propagate them. we're hoping that they'll turn out fine. my mom will be using your videos as guides to build her plant empire again! love you! 😊💜

Nothing like having those on a large ficus benjamin. I wrapped up the pot in a trashbag and tightly sealed it around the stem, then I took it in the shower and kept spraying it with very soapy water (dishsoap), rinsing it, soaping it up, rinsing, soaping, rinsing, soaping.... by the end I was so sweaty and smelly that I had to shower myself.... with a giant ficus in the shower, with its wet leaves sticking to me 😭

When my plants got bad mealy bugs while home on summer break, I mixed about 1 part isopropyl alcohol to 2 parts water (iirc) in a spray bottle and would spray down/ mist the plants once a day, especially focusing on new leaves, nooks, and the undersides of the leaves. Then I’d mist the leaves/ stems with the hose to wash away the icky buggies. It cleared them up before too long. You just have to keep doing it for a bit - even if you think they’re gone - to catch the offspring of the first bugs.

She’s been gone for 16 years now and I haven’t lived with her for 20 so it was a long time ago but I do remember her doing that. I wonder if you could do that for these guys? Instead of the alcohol? Or maybe both? I don’t know how long she submerged it but I do remember her doing it and it working. Anyway sending all my best wishes! Thanks for the videos! Just a suggestion to everyone to keep your alcohol better…. Dump out the amount you intend to use into a cup, bowl or whatever then dip cotton swab or q-tip into that, instead of dipping directly into the alcohol bottle. Just a better, more sterile technique.

Will Mosquito Bits work on these? Maybe soak the bits in water overnight then strain and use this water to spray plants with…It might not work on the already-adults but might prevent the juvenile ones from maturing (contains a naturally-occurring bacteria and. that’s the mode of action upon insects, but I don’t know how much moisture it needs)
