I ran games like this at the board game restaurant I worked for, worked smoothly!

This was a very timely video. My group is moving back to playing in person after having been online for a while. In our case, we're using Pathfinder 2e so getting Foundry to handle some of the campaign management would be helpful on top of being able to show the players the maps more easily. Definitely something to consider. Thanks!

It would definitely work for that!! I have another video on all the other stuff I also use at the table too but this felt like it needed it's own video haha

We run a hybrid setup as well but we use Talespires for mapping. I think Foundry is a lot more powerful and feature complete but when you're only really using it as a mapping tool for combat it serves surprisingly well.

True, I still run online games so I use foundry for those too so using a tool I'm already familiar with and using made most sense to me. But could be overkill for others

I am looking to do this myself, gonna watch your foundry videos. Thank you so much!

i bought Foundry 2 days ago for this exact reason! - Vision/Fog of war for my in person game with a TV in the middle - Better tracking notes + char sheets - and music/SFX all in 1 place

Use Monk's common display module for your observer account. It's amazing.

It works well for sure!

I'm loving this setup! I never thought about just using a tv, do you have anything else protecting the screen?

We do not, but I suppose you could get a screen protector. I think I mentioned it in the video, but it was a very cheap TV. I don't even think it was bought new. But if you wanted something higher res/quality, a screen protector or contact paper on the screen might help. We don't really see any scratches on ours though and we've been using it this way for 3 years.

Just starting to do this myself for in person games (foundry on laptop and tv/monitor to be player facing or flat on table). I just picked up a 15" external monitor meant for laptops for 60 bucks. Basically a flat tablet. So no need to build a stand/box for it

I opted for the smaller size to be more portable and take up less table size so can be more easily used on smaller table situations like at local brewery that does tabletop/rpg nights that use picnic tables

That all makes sense to me! We don't take the tv anywhere but we do move it off the dining room table between sessions. It is pretty light weight though surprisingly. Just bulky to carry around

We use a similar setup for 1 of our games, except the tv is connected to a separate computer and 1 of the players handles moving all the player tokens.

I think players moving their own tokens around is important, otherwise they begin to feel like observers rather than participants. Having everyone be able to move their own tokens also means that they can take turns and act simultaneously.

That's one way to do it. I made little tokens though for my players (which I could show as well) and that gives everyone more autonomy

I've been thinking about running a home game with VTT the past week, so thanks for sharing how you use it. When I first saw the Constitution Saving Throw board in the background, my mind jumped to the US Presidential election 😅 Also, I love the graphic on your top. Cool design!

I daydream about having a table for Foundry, even if it's just for SFX and maps.

We've drawn out a table to build and everything but the process of actually building one is a lot lol

Neat ideas! Although I would like to know if there is a way of doing this with a tablet

I'm sure you could but you'd have only 10 squares of the map at a time lol. If you want to use ot the way I am a tv works better. But they have flatter screens available too
