So, you video popping up in the recommended videos was perfect timing. I'll be re-watching it many times. Check out some of my HX Stomp presets on my site: AlexStrabala.com. I also have a list of recommended global settings there which explains these global settings in more detail. Thanks again.

Semi-dumb question. I'm looking to perhaps downsize my rig to a stomp and a few drive pedals. My reservations are that my church has a house AC30 for me to use, and I often play in small bars without a proper PA system with my band. I just use my little Fender Pro Jr. at non-church gigs. @AlexStrabala
4 жыл бұрын
It mostly comes from experience knowing what works in FOH. A lot of tones I’ve heard online would be unusably bright in a live context. The best way is to get a decent home studio setup with some room treatment, so you can dial in tones in a mix at close to live volume in as neutral an environment as possible. You can easily get a basic setup for under $1000. As you turn up the volume in the room with you, you’ll quickly see why my presets are darker than some other preset sellers who only have experience playing in churches, not professionally.

Aspix3 amp blocks are mono, if you want to preserve the stereo image you need to run two amps in parallel and hard pan the split and merge blocks. I show how to do this in this video: m.kzitem.info/news/bejne/p2mjk3uQk4pjmag I would recommend running your wet effects in a stereo FX loop after the amp and cab though. Hey Alex! Are you just running IEM’s and running FOH live and/or are using anything to push air?
@AlexStrabala

grahamsev running direct, using IEMs. There’s no need to push air since the audience only would hear the signal from the mic on a real cab anyway, and all that is taken care of in the IR component of a modeler.

Does this computer software come with the stomp? I’m a little confused I guess. Do you need this software to get the tone that’s being played in this video. Thanks!

Alen this is just the free computer editor software for Helix called HX Edit, which lets you edit presets on the unit in real time, load IRs, make backups, etc with USB. The guitar audio you hear is recorded direct from the Stomp via USB into my DAW.

If you connect the two button foot switch, will HX Stomp detect it and add the two other foot switches automatically, or do you have to go into the configuration and tell HXS it's there?
@AlexStrabala

Steve Andrews The two other footswitches can be used for other purposes like navigating presets, snapshots, etc., so in the global settings you have to tell it to use them as stomps 4 and 5.

When you use this set up as your stand alone, what do you do for changing presets or a song? Do you physically bend down and change the preset or have something set up?
@AlexStrabala
5 жыл бұрын
I just reach down and turn the preset knob. I set up all the presets in advance so they're all in order. You could of course use a midi controller for this if you wanted, but the priority of this rig was small size. It's now on a nano+ with my GLX-D wireless, two mini pedals, and the Stomp, all powered with a 1spot pro CS6.

Alex S oh okay I got it. Yeah I sold my LT, cause I just wasnt using the dsp and I wanted to run smaller and also because we've incorporated alot of acoustic stuff that I run my lr baggs di with. The way we have been playing lately I could probably get away with just the two button stomp, but I want to add two more for options within a song. Cool, so I'll go with the hx stomp and add a two button and manually change songs.

Alex S is there a way this could work by switching banks? I’ve seen in the manual for the stomp, pressing FS1+2 will bank down, FS2+3 will bank up. Is there something in your set up that no longer allows for scrolling through banks only using the 3 foot switches?
@AlexStrabala
5 жыл бұрын
@@greendayisawesome100 that works in a couple of the footswitch views, like preset view and snapshot view, but not in stomp view because that would eliminate the ability to hit two footswitches at one time in stomp view, which is not a good idea. All of this is on page 10 of the manual.

@@AlexStrabala Not sure if you use an iPad when you play but another option for things is the App Bandhelper and a Yamaha wireless Bluetooth Midi adapter. I use this on stage and can control everything from Bandhelper. Also since I use Backing tracks, I can time the midi messages via automation to automatically make all my changes so I can focus on singing and playing. My Stomp is on the way and thats how I will use it, so technically I need zero buttons.

Why the amp & cab pre-delay/reverb?
@AlexStrabala
3 жыл бұрын
A few reasons: Gives me a stereo image even with one amp and cab. It allows me to toggle the amp drive up and down. If the wet effects were before the amp this wouldn’t work well. With real amps you’re limited to the pedals into clean amp paradigm unless you want to use an FX loop, but even that is a compromise on sound compared to the real world. If you put an amp in a real canyon / cave, etc, you would hear the dry sound from the cab first, then the reverb. Also, in the studio it’s very common to add wet effects in post.
@BrodyRogers711
5 жыл бұрын
Do you HAVE to use a cab or could you run an external Cab Sim. Pedal/Device
@AlexStrabala
5 жыл бұрын
B-Dub Rogers each of the Stomp’s 6 blocks cab be anything. So you could have 6 delays or 3 reverbs and 3 amps (DSP permitting), etc. So yes you could have an amp model and some effects, and run that into an external cab sim pedal, IR loader, or power amp and real cab. The preset I built in this video is designed to run direct, i.e. to recreate the signal from a mic on a cab in another room, like in the studio, so I wanted it to be all in one.
@jeremiah_justice

Answered just about all my question on the stomp. Does the fx loop take up one of the 6 blocks? I want to use it just for dual amps with one FX loop at the end of the blocks for both amps.
@AlexStrabala
5 жыл бұрын
Yes, currently the FX loop block uses up one of your 6 blocks. Apparently they're working on how to remove this limitation without making the UI too confusing. But you could easily fit 2 amps, 2 cabs, an EQ, and a stereo FX loop into 1 preset on the Stomp. Have you considered running the Stomp earlier in your signal path? That way you can do things like use a footswitch to toggle the gain on the amps up and down, like I do in this video, and still have your wet effects after it. Then you can run straight out of your last pedal into a DI to FOH. With the Stomp you don't have to limit yourself to the analog "pedals into clean amp" paradigm!
@jeremiah_justice
5 жыл бұрын
@@AlexStrabala Thanks Alex. So I really just want it for amps so it will be after all my stompboxes like a normal amp. Using an fx loop for reverb as I would in an amps effects loop. Then the hx stomp outputs to FOH. But I really like using a switch for gain I didn't know that was an option because I like to use boost pedals for that reason. Now if I use IR's will I still be able to run 2 amps, 2 cabs, EQ and FX loop? If so I'm sold cuz I need to replace my vetta 2 amp, yes you read that right! One more question can I use a usb to spdif adapter for spdif audio out of hx stomp?
@AlexStrabala
5 жыл бұрын
Not sure about the USB to SPDIF thing. It's an 8x8 USB interface so it definitely supports 96k audio out. Also yes, IRs use one block each, so the setup you described is definitely possible.

It really depends on the feel you're going for with the compressor, but you could probably turn the threshold down a bit.
