Thanks for putting me in this one, I love your videos! I also wanted to comment that in many of Williams presentations of the Imperial March including its first big statement during what I think of as the star destroyer ballet, he avoids using any minor i chords. The tonic is asserted by the repetition of a unison G- and the Gb in the Eb minor chord functions as the leading tone. It creates a marvelous indirect effect which I think is part of this tune’s immortal appeal.

This is great! Would you consider comparing Rey and the Emperor's themes? To me it sounds like they knew back in The Force Awakens that she would be his granddaughter but I would really love to hear your take on it

Can we have like an hour long video of this? 😅 If I lived in NY I'll offer having like a monthly session of watching a movie and then having a debate about how they've used the music. You're lucky I'm on the other side of the planet 😂 (the debate would be over a Junior's cheesecake to make it more tempting)

This isn’t what balance is, George Lucas has indicated balance is the light side
@HowardHoMusic

Sure, but in order to attain the light side, a person must learn to control their dark side, not eliminate it completely but to acknowledge that it exists and keep it in check.

Huh, I noticed the paradoxical implied major melody of the Imperial March a long time ago, but had never thought about how the Rebel Fanfare does the opposite trick. I would not mind seeing more videos like this!

You *need* to check out the theme to Rogue One, composed by Michael Giacchino. It shares the first two notes with the main Star Wars theme, but the three notes that follow are the same but inverted! It feels like a "baton pass" between the themes, one reaching up and one reaching down, which goes perfectly with Rogue One's story of how the plans to the Death Star made their way to Leia, who got them to the Rebellion.

oh and also like a baton pass from Galen, who was a rebel masquerading as an imperial, to Jyn, a jaded rebel, prompting her to become active again?!

Bringing balance to the Force DOES mean destroying the Sith and weeding evil out of the galaxy, NOT some kind of balance between light and dark.

I am sorry but I'm pretty sure that the ideal balance of the force, at least at the beginning, wasn't meant to be as balance between light and dark sides. The light side itself is the balance, while the dark side is imbalance
@HowardHoMusic

Let's be clear. Yes, balance involves the suppression of the dark side BUT balance doesn't mean getting rid of the dark side entirely, because you can't get rid of it. It exists.
